A seasoned academic with over 20 years of experience, Prof. R.S. Solanki, as dean, has led the law department of a university emphasizing practical learning through moot courts, case studies, and legal aid camps. A former advocate and PhD holder, he has successfully mentored students who have excelled in the judiciary and corporate sectors.

Dr. (Prof.) Ratan Singh Solanki serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Oriental University, Indore. With decades of experience in the legal field, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of aspiring legal professionals.

Under his leadership, the Faculty of Law at Oriental University promotes a practical, hands-on approach to education. The department focuses on case-based studies, moot courts, and legal aid camps, ensuring that students gain real-world insights into the legal profession.

As Dean, Professor Solanki is dedicated to preparing students for successful legal careers. With 18 to 20 years of experience in legal education, he has introduced innovative teaching methodologies that blend theoretical knowledge with practical application. He ensures that law students of the university are well-prepared to secure employment upon graduation.

The university organizes campus drives for internships and placements, allowing students to gain valuable experience. Internships are an integral part of the curriculum, as mandated by the Bar Council of India (BCI). Several students from the Faculty of Law of the university have gone on to secure positions in the corporate sector, while others have successfully cleared judiciary examinations. This holistic approach under Professor Solanki’s guidance has enabled students to achieve notable milestones in their careers.

What makes the Faculty of Law exceptional is its dedicated and highly qualified faculty, coupled with the support of an outstanding management team. Professor Solanki emphasizes that the department prioritizes practical, hands-on learning and continuously updates its curriculum to meet contemporary legal challenges. Students who choose Oriental University can be assured of receiving a top-tier education that prepares them for successful careers in law.

Talking about his inspiration for pursuing a career in law, Professor Solanki recalls it  stemmed from his early awareness of the challenges in accessing justice. Growing up, he witnessed how difficult it was for people, particularly the underprivileged, to achieve justice. This realization fueled his dream to contribute to society by supporting those in need. His commitment to this vision led him to pursue a career in law, which he now passionately teaches to his students.

Born in the picturesque city of Udaipur, Rajasthan, Professor Solanki completed his schooling at Maharana Mewar Public School, located in the historic City Palace premises of Udaipur. He went on to earn his law degree from Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur, followed by a PhD.

Before transitioning to academia, he practiced law as an advocate, gaining experience in district and sessions courts across Rajasthan. He also practiced at the High Court in Jodhpur, further enhancing his understanding of the legal system. These experiences have enriched his teaching, providing students with practical knowledge and firsthand insights into the legal profession.

When reflecting on his role models, Professor Solanki names former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as a profound influence. He admires Vajpayee’s exceptional leadership, oratory skills, and ability to unite people across political lines. Vajpayee’s transformation of the BJP, from a party with just two members in Parliament to leading a national alliance, is a testament to his visionary leadership.

Professor Solanki is particularly inspired by Vajpayee’s capability to build consensus and maintain friendships across party lines. His principles and achievements serve as a source of inspiration, guiding Professor Solanki in his professional and personal life.

One of Professor Solanki’s guiding principles is inspired by the Bhagavad Gita: “Permanent is not permanent; only change is permanent.” He believes in embracing change as a constant in life. This philosophy has shaped his approach to both teaching and personal growth.

To prospective law students, Professor Solanki offers a compelling message: Oriental University’s Faculty of Law stands out as one of the best legal education institutions, not just in Indore or Madhya Pradesh, but across India. The department offers both a 5-year integrated BA LLB program for students who have completed 12th grade and a 3-year LLB program for graduates.

In conclusion, he hopes that his experiences inspire students to pursue their passions and make meaningful contributions to society.
