Serving a university since 2003, Prof. Rajeev Mehta oversees administration and academic growth of the university. Under his stewardship, the institution evolved from just a college of 217 students to a full-fledged university with over 3500 students. Prof. Mehta is deeply committed to student development, offering scholarships and looking after the overall welfare of the students. Inspired by his father and the vision of the institution’s founder, he personally counsels students and remains closely connected to the alumni of the university.

Designated as Registrar of Sangam University, Bhilwara, Prof. Rajeev Mehta also serves as a Chemistry Professor at the university. Taking care of all the administration-related activities, he ensures that the best facilities are provided to the students of Sangam University, which would help them ace their career possibilities.

Serving the institution since 2003, Prof. Mehta shares that Sangam University was previously known as ITM Bhilwara (an engineering and management college affiliated to Rajasthan University). From 2012 onwards, this institution came to be known as Sangam University. They started different schools like the School of Science, the School of Engineering and Technology, the School of Management Studies, the School of Legal Studies, and the School of Arts and Humanities. In 2018, they extended further by opening the School of Agriculture and the School of Pharmacy. In 2024, they started the School of Nursing and the School of Physiotherapy, which are all  approved by the government.

Prof. Rajeev Mehta recalls that in 2003 the institution had just 217 students. Over the years, they have emerged as a leading institution having over 3500 students and stand as the 3rd best private university in Rajasthan. They aspire to become the best private university in Rajasthan in future.

The teachers imparting education at Sangam University have 100+ patents registered under their names. No other university in Rajasthan has such a landmark. Similarly, the faculty members have also published 600+ research papers. Talking about students, he shares that they have excelled in different areas. The university won a bronze medal in a national boxing competition, and students have been participating in the Republic Day Camp (RDC) Parade and other national-level competitions too. The university has also received various projects from the government for the Department of Science & Technology (DST) and an amount of Rs. 4 crores for funding startups.

Prof. Mehta shares the vision of Shri R. P. Soni, the founder and chairman of Sangam University which is to support the economically weak and backward students of the Mewar region by providing them the best higher education facilities. Every year, they strive to support the meritorious students as well as the economically backward students by giving them scholarships. He further adds that to boost this initiative, Sangam University gives scholarships worth Rs. 1 crore annually.

Currently, Sangam University runs nine different schools. He briefs about the various courses offered at the various schools, like: The School of Engineering and Technology runs courses like BTech, MTech, BCA, MCA, and PhD programs. In the School of Management Studies, they have BBA and MBA courses. In the School of Science, they have BSc and MSc Degrees in Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology, Botany, Zoology, and a special course in Geoinformatics as well. Talking about the School of Arts and Humanities, he says they offer MA and BA programs, while the School of Legal Studies runs BA, LLB, and LLM courses. The School of Agriculture Science and Technology offers a degree in BSc Honours. The newly started School of Nursing offers degrees in BSc Nursing and GNM programs. The School of Physiotherapy offers a Bachelor of Physiotherapy course. Sangam University also has a School of Vocational Studies, where they offer a Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc) degree. Prof. Mehta shares that all these degree courses offered in the different schools of the university have Ph.D. options available as well.

Prof. Mehta shares that he always wanted to become an administrator. After completing his Ph.D., he started enjoying this work as he liked to interact with and counsel the students. Sangam University has an alumni of 8,000 students, and his strength lies in being personally connected to all these alumni. He believes in counselling the students personally, motivating them, and recognising their innate talent to mould them towards becoming a good citizen of the country. Prof. Rajeev shares that the skills students come to the university with, and how they leave as alumni, after gaining the skills they have learned here—gives him a deep sense of satisfaction and inspiration to do more and more for the students. He highlights that about 300 former students of Sangam University are placed in 16 different countries across the globe.

Recalling his childhood, Prof. Rajeev Mehta says that he was born and raised in the Shahpura town of Bhilwara. He completed his basic education from Arya Samaj Primary School, Shahpura, and graduated from M.L.V. Government College, Bhilwara. The education received at Arya Samaj Primary School helped him gain major values in life. He completed his Ph.D. in 2003 and ever since then he has been trying to make an impact in the educational field for the betterment of the students.

Prof. Mehta was always in awe of his father, Pradeep Mehta’s work and deeds. Blessed with a unique personality and patience, his father taught him ethical values to progress in life and he always tried to emulate him. Adding to this, Prof. Mehta shares that he continuously strives to learn from directors and vice chancellors of the university. The chairman, Shri R.P. Soni, continues to inspire him and guide him in different instances of life. All the students studying at the university remind him of fulfilling the dream of Shri R.P. Soni to provide education to all.

He shares that recently an Alumni Chapter of Sangam University was established in Ahmedabad, where they met 70 accomplished former students. Prof. Mehta went to the homes of each one of them, and looking at the progress they all have made gave him an immense sense of achievement. The alumni today are in good positions at work, living a sound life, and contributing to society.

He recalls an incident from 2014, when he was waiting on a highway in Gurgaon and noticed a lady stopping her car and shouting ‘‘Rajeev Sir.’’ She was a student of the first batch of Sangam University who later shared that she was working in an MNC at a senior position. Such small incidents fill him with a sense of achievement and gratification in life. He believes that through students, a teacher can contribute a lot to society and the nation as a whole. Prof. Mehta shares that in the initial stages, many students don’t recognise their talents, but after receiving support and motivation from teachers, they are able to get placements in MNCs at good positions.

Professor Mehta shares that the faculty members at Sangam University are always connected to the students with a sense of belongingness. Apart from imparting education, they are also mentors, providing knowledge and helping the students grab placement opportunities and become entrepreneurs. Sangam University has a training and placement cell as well as an entrepreneurship cell, which helps the students with their startups and job opportunities in the future.

Prof. Mehta is also a cricketer. To date, he performs as an opening batsman in cricket tournaments. He is a passionate sportsperson and also enjoys listening to music and humming slow songs of Kishore Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan.

He believes that his field allows him to stay young, as he has to interact with youngsters all the time and connect with them. He gains a lot of energy and learns from freshers entering college every year.

Talking about development of the nation, Prof. Mehta shares that be it a teacher, doctor, engineer, or businessman, if everyone does their work with utmost dedication and sincerity, it helps in the overall development of the nation. Being a teacher, he emphasises teaching the students in a manner that the students excel in their careers.

On a lighter note, he shares a Kishore Kumar song for the students who are the victims of depression:

“रोते हुए आते हैं सब, हंसता हुआ जो जाएगा… वो मुक़द्दर का सिकन्दर, जानेमन कहलाएगा”
