Prof. Pradeep Kumar Sharma holds the esteemed position of Head of the Department of Business Administration at the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. He also serves as the Dean and Director of the RA Podar Institute of Management in Jaipur.
He started with a B.Com (Hons) and then did an M.Com in Business Administration. Later, he earned a Ph.D. in Marketing of Salt. During his academic journey, he also completed a one-year PG Diploma in Salesmanship and Marketing and another in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations.
He mentions that his journey as an academic began during his time as a research scholar. At the request of the Principal of the University Commerce College, he conducted free classes there as a research scholar in the year 1989-90. In 1996, Prof. Pradeep commenced his professional journey at the University of Rajasthan.
Prof. Pradeep shares that he has an impressive record of authorship, having written approximately twenty two books that cover various aspects of Business and Commerce across different fields. He has also authored a book titled 'Management Thought and Business Leader,' drawing inspiration from the National Education Policy.
Prof. Pradeep says that his passion has always been in writing, and he proudly mentions that he has authored over fifty articles and research papers that have been published in renowned national and international journals.
Reflecting on his journey, he acknowledges experiencing numerous ups and downs but says he always remained committed to consistently teaching his students. He takes pride in having authored books on topics that were not readily accessible, aiming to assist students in their studies.
He has provided guidance to a total of twenty students who successfully obtained their PhD degrees under his mentorship. Currently, he is actively involved in a project centered on the contemporary topic of Green Logistics.
Reflecting on his childhood, Prof. Pradeep fondly recalls accompanying his father to meet his guru. His guru prophesied that his name signifies a bearer of light, a prediction that he believes has come true in his life.
Reflecting on his past, Prof. Pradeep admits that he didn't initially grasp the significance of the ’light’ his guru had mentioned. However, when he achieved the 2nd rank in M.Com, he realized his calling and made the decision to pursue a career in academia, and became a ‘light’ in the education field.
He acknowledges facing setbacks in his life, including not passing the RAS interview and experiencing challenges when attempting to enter the industry due to his high qualifications. However, he expresses that in the field of education, his journey has been relatively smooth and fulfilling.
Prof. Pradeep shares that after completing his M.Com, he also taught part-time at Agarwal College. His long journey in the field of education began in 1989-90 when he started teaching at the University of Rajasthan.
When asked about his role models, he attributes his inspiration to his 'guru' and acknowledges that the blessings of his parents have supported his career endeavors.
He emphasizes the importance of continuous learning for teachers and encourages students to embrace their cultural heritage, learn from philosophers and explore the autobiographies of great individuals.
Prof. Pradeep’s success mantra revolves around never being complacent in life. According to him, the key to being a successful student lies in effective learning and attentive listening, principles he has always adhered to.
He also underscores the significance of both education and experience in life.
Finally, his message to all citizens is to contribute positively to the nation while keeping the motto of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ in mind, which signifies the world as one family.
