Priya Dubey has been running her own news channel on YouTube along with a website called ‘Bharat News Network’ for a year. Before that she worked in ‘News91’ and ‘Live Rajasthan' news channels. She has been working in the field of Journalism for the last five years. She is also the District Women Secretary of the Journalists Association of Rajasthan-JAR.
Priya was born and brought up in Udaipur and completed all her education from Guru Nanak Girls School and College in Udaipur itself. She did her P.G. in Journalism from MLSU and also took its training from there. MLSU’s student politics influenced her, towards which her interest grew and she thought of making her future in politics. So she started actively taking part in all the University elections. Once she helped a candidate standing for the General Secretary of the University Students Union to contest and win. Moving ahead, she contested and won such elections many times because of which she is still known as a student leader there.
When asked about struggles, Priya says that she always dreamed of pursuing her career in Dance and going further in it. But her father didn’t want that at all, because of which he put a condition in front of her that she could not go. But it didn’t stop her from dancing and hence she started dancing and teaching at home. But the time of the biggest struggle of her life came when she came to know that her aunt had cancer and she was the closest to her heart as she considered her aunt as her mother. That’s when she decided to quit Dance and just take care of her aunt. But she could not survive for long which came as a shock for Priya. It took her some time to come out of it but thinking about the life ahead of her, she courageously moved ahead.
Priya says that her father had Diabetes and due to the Covid pandemic, she became worried for him. Due to which she stopped going out of the house for a few days but at the same time it was becoming a hindrance in her career. Then she took advantage of her Journalism degree and started posting the exact figures of Corona cases on social media as received from her sources in the Hospital. Apart from this, she along with her family and NGOs, distributed ration to the poor and helpless people of her village. She also started the work of making masks together with her family members and some villagers and distributed them in the village.
Priya recommends the young generation not to come into the field of Journalism because from now on they have to face a lot of challenges in this field because Covid has taken a very formidable form. Because of that many people have lost their jobs. However if anyone wants to come into this area, then make sure that you will not get money in it in the initial years. So if you have financial support, then you can come in this field and make your identity as a Journalist. And in addition to reading books, you will have to work more in the field.
