Practice is the key factor behind art.
Prerana Shrimali is a Kathak artist at Kalaavart Prerana Shrimali Kathak Centre, Jaipur.
Prerana was born in Banswara and raised in Jaipur. She has been dancing since childhood and gave her first performance at the age of five. Initially, she started dancing as a hobby, but had to drop out for some time because of the transferable job of her father. She learned from Girdhari Maharaj and Pt. Gouri Shankar in Jaipur.
Accepting her mistakes, Prerana says that she made the mistake of telling lies to her parents and not attending the dance classes when they were living in Udaipur. Later, she learned the lesson of always speaking the truth.
When asked about her role models, Prerana says that she didn’t have any in her life as she started dancing as a hobby and decided to pursue it as a profession very late.
Prerana’s success mantra is that in life, the three D’s are important: discipline, dedication, and devotion. Honesty is also required to attain success in any field.
Prerana advises the youth to be clear about their motives and to be disciplined before entering this field. She believes that any art form is started as a hobby, becomes a habit, and later turns into an addiction. To learn art, one should value time, be honest with their work, grasp things, and update themselves with advancement. Practice is the most important part of art, says Prerana.
