Dr. Prem Singh Rawlot is the principal of a college who feels that parents should not pressure their kids to join a particular stream and give them a free hand and guidance to choose a field of their interest.

Dr. Prem Singh Rawlot was born in a small village in Jaisalmer. Prem says that his village is around 60 kms from the Pakistan border and used to be a complete desert area with scarcity of water. The conditions were very difficult  to survive in and thus he had seen many struggles from the very beginning.

Until the 8th standard, he studied in his village itself. He completed his 9th till 12th standard in Phalodi, Jodhpur in the Arts stream. He did his B.A. from Dungar College, Bikaner in 1989. After this, he did his Masters in Public Administration from Sukhadia University, Udaipur. He then pursued his Doctorate from MDS University, Ajmer, and also qualified UGC NET in his first attempt to become a college lecturer.

Prem worked as an Assistant Professor at Sukhadia University in Udaipur from 1992 to 1995. Then, he joined B.N. Girls College, Salumbar in 1995 and is working as a principal there. Simultaneously, he is also the president of the Shyam Nagar Society and working on the development of the area.

Prem shares that he comes from a family of soldiers. His grandfather fought in the first world war and his uncle in the second world war. Prem had also given the interview for second lieutenant twice but could not crack it. Therefore, as he was also interested in the teaching field, he opted for it.

Talking about struggles, he says that coming from a desert area posed many situational struggles in front of him as a child. Also, choosing between a non-permanent job in a government college and a permanent one in a private college was a huge dilemma for him as a government job was considered more respectable at that time.

Talking about his achievements, Prem says that he has received the ‘Best Teacher’ award many times from organizations like Dainik Bhaskar and Vedanta. He feels that guiding students like him, who come from rural backgrounds, is a great joy for him. Many students taught by him are in good positions like RAS, IAS, and Professors and it makes Prem really proud.

When asked about role models, Prem says that his parents are his role models. Even with limited resources and geographical limitations, they managed to get a government job and get their kids educated in good schools and colleges.

Prem says that COVID was a tough and trying time for everyone. However, proper precautions and following covid-appropriate behavior helped him and his students tread well through this.

Prem shares that his Success Mantra is believing in yourself and putting relentless efforts toward achieving your goals.

In his free time, he likes to pursue physical activities like sports and traveling. He likes to explore natural places and spend time in peace.
