Prem Dhande currently holds the position of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DYSP) in Udaipur, Rajasthan.
Prem hails from Jaisalmer and has completed her schooling at Vidyawadi Girls Hostel in Pali, followed by higher secondary education at Banasthali Vidyapith in Jaipur. She pursued a BE in information technology and later an MBA in marketing and HR from Hyderabad University. Afterward, she gained work experience in the private sector, spending a year at Reliance Life Insurance and working as a project manager for one and a half years at Anupama Builders.
Prem shares that her motivation to pursue a government job stemmed from her brother-in-law's encouragement. At the time, her sister was preparing for RAS exams, and they both embarked on the journey together. While waiting for the RAS exam results, they decided to contest elections for the post of Zila Parishad. Although she emerged victorious, her selection in the police department prompted her to resign from the Zila Parishad and join the police sector.
Prem says that despite coming from a traditional background in Jaisalmer, her family has been consistently supportive. Her grandfather played a pivotal role in inspiring her father to prioritize the education of his daughters. Given her father's transferable job, he arranged for her and her sisters to study at a hostel and always encouraged them to pursue their dreams without any pressure. She expresses gratitude for the unwavering support of her father, mother, and brother, and now, as a mother herself, she acknowledges the sacrifices her parents made by leaving her in a hostel at a young age.
Reflecting on her marriage, Prem expresses deep appreciation for her husband and in-laws, who have always stood by her despite being aware of the demanding working hours associated with her police job.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Prem diligently adhered to government guidelines and played a vital role on the frontline. She maintained law and order, urged people to stay at home, and extended support to stranded migrants by distributing essential supplies. Engaging in these social services provided her with a sense of satisfaction.
Prem also focused on raising awareness about COVID and strictly followed safety precautions. However, she had to make the difficult decision to isolate herself from her son for 45 days after fieldwork. Unfortunately, both she and her son tested positive for COVID-19 in August, despite taking precautions. It was an arduous period, but with the psychological support of her parents and husband, she was able to overcome the challenges.
Prem acknowledges that her brother-in-law's constant encouragement played a significant role in her pursuit of a government job. Initially lacking motivation, she found inspiration in her sister's determination to rebuild their family after a tragic accident that took her sister's husband's life and left her severely injured. Witnessing her sister's resilience fueled Prem's drive to join the government sector, allowing her to make a meaningful impact and serve the community.
Prem says that leadership qualities were instilled in her by her father. Throughout her childhood, she was elected as a hostel leader multiple times, always taking a frontline role in promoting teamwork.
In her leisure time, Prem enjoys spending quality moments with her son as well as with her friends and colleagues.
While Prem holds no regrets in life, if she could go back in time, she would have started preparing for a government job earlier based on her brother-in-law's advice, which would have allowed her to serve the public much earlier.
Prem firmly believes in carrying out her work with honesty, impartiality, and self-belief.
