Preety Bhatia is a manager at a state bank. She is in charge of the retail sector of the bank and provides essential services like EMIs, home loans, insurance, financial schemes, etc.
Describing her journey in the banking profession, Pretty says that to join this profession, one has to take the IBPS examination and then appear for the subsequent interview. She cleared the IBPS examination after graduating from college and was selected for a clerical position. Initially working hard, she gradually worked her way up the career ladder and served at various branches of the government bank. She was eventually promoted to assistant manager and is now a manager at the bank. Preety is proud to be in this profession, as it allows her to serve her country while providing a safe and stable source of income with minimal risk of losing her job.
Sharing her experience during the COVID-19 pandemic, Pretty says that the pandemic affected the entire country’s economy. According to her, there was a negative impact on the retail sector of the bank. There was reduced staff in the bank in order to maintain social distancing, and the work was divided into alternate days. Customers were given proper sanitation measures by the bank. During the COVID pandemic, only staff working in essential services were allowed to commute. She faced difficulty commuting as no travel services were available during the lockdown.
When asked about her role models, Preety looks up to her father as her role model. Her father is an expert at time management, and be it official work or time for his family, he never compromises on any and always manages his time in such a way that he can pay attention to every important aspect of his life.
According to her, leadership is a quality built through experience. She believes that a true leader must have the capability of leading everyone and simultaneously serving everyone in the team.
Preety believes that education and experience are two sides of the same coin. Education assists us by providing a base or foundation of knowledge on which one imbibes experience, and experience helps one apply the knowledge gained from education. Her favorite hobbies are listening to music and cooking.
For young aspirants, Pretty explains the procedure of the exam, saying that one has to be a graduate in any discipline and then appear for the IBPS examination, after which there will be an interview. Promotion examinations take place periodically. Normal-track and fast-track promotions are available in the banking sector, and she explains each in detail. However, one must be prepared to relocate whenever necessary.
On a concluding note, Preety says that one must never betray another’s trust. She advises us to always fulfil our responsibilities.
