Preeti Makhija is a Makeup Artist and owner of Colour Contour Makeovers. She is also an Advertising and Export Manager.

Hailing from Udaipur, Preeti did her schooling from St. Mary’s School and later graduated from B.N. College, Udaipur. She further did her postgraduate studies in Journalism and Mass Communication from ICG College, Jaipur.

Preeti shares that while working as a content writer in Ahmedabad, she had the opportunity to interview Neena Ubhi, the famous makeup artist. Neena's perspective on makeup enhancing self-confidence deeply resonated with Preeti, motivating her to delve into the field herself. She began learning makeup techniques from Neena while continuing her work in content writing and blogging about makeup. Currently, she serves as an export manager at an advertising consulting firm and becomes a full-time makeup artist during the peak seasons.

In Preeti's view, makeup isn't about achieving flawlessness but rather about feeling comfortable in one's own skin. As makeup artists, their aim is to enhance the features and personality of a client.

Remembering her childhood, Preeti recalls her fascination with makeup. Seeing her curiosity, her mother brought her some makeup products like lipstick, kajal, etc. She loved to experiment with various products on her mother and sister. Alongside her interest in makeup, she enjoyed indulging in painting, sketching, and drawing.

Talking about her challenges, Preeti admits that she was hesitant to start as a makeup artist due to lack of experience, and because there were many artists who were much more skilled and experienced than her. However, she persisted, honed her skills, and expanded her network to attract more clients. She advocates utilizing social media platforms to showcase one's abilities.

Sharing about her achievements, Preeti says she finds fulfilment in the appreciation received from her clients, considering it a significant achievement in her career. She recounts a touching moment when a client was overwhelmed with joy after applying makeup and moved to tears by the transformation.

When asked about her role models, Preeti says she admires celebrity makeup artist Neena Ubhi, whose journey inspires her. Her thoughts resonate with Neena, who initially faced resource constraints and did multiple jobs simultaneously to pursue her interests.

Comparing education and experience, Preeti underscores the importance of both, highlighting that while formal education lays the foundation, practical experience shapes one's career trajectory. We learn from our experiences and exposures, she claims.

Offering advice to aspiring makeup artists, Preeti emphasizes the importance of genuine interest in the field rather than choosing it due to external influences. She recommends seeking mentorship from professional makeup artists, paying attention to detail, and building a diverse portfolio. Keeping a watch on upcoming trends and makeup product knowledge, effective client communication, and a robust marketing strategy are also crucial, including the use of social media platforms for increasing popularity.
