He has learned music from his guru, Hariharan, the famous playback singer. He is also associated with Anup Jalota and Padma Bhushan recipients Pt. Rajan and Sajan Mishra.
Recalling his childhood, Praveen says that his father was the director of Kala Bharti in Alwar. So, there he used to learn vocals and to play other musical instruments in the evening classes. He practiced a lot and did not have the time to play outside.
Sharing about his struggles, Praveen says that due to the early demise of his father, his family faced many challenges. His mother worked and took care of them. He practiced music along with his studies. However, as his father was a much respected person in society, they were helped by many people.
Talking about his achievements, Praveen says that he received the Master Madan award from Jaipur. His programmes are aired on Akashvani. He has performed in concerts across the length and breadth of the country.
When asked about his role models, Praveen says that his father is his biggest inspiration to pursue music as a career, followed by his mother and his gurus, from whom he learned music. One of the poems of Harivansh Rai Bachchan, whose few lines are, "Lahro se dar kar nauka paar nahi hoti, koshish karne vaalo ki kabhi haar nahi hoti," also inspires him.
Praveen says that in classical music, the importance of Sur becomes more important than the lyrics.
Comparing education and experience, Praveen says that both are complementary to each other and are incomplete without each other.
To all those who want to pursue music as a profession, Praveen advises them to learn it with discipline and consistent practice.
To all the youngsters, Praveen advises them to respect their elders, come out of the virtual world of mobile phones, spend time with their families, and try to be in a natural environment. Focus on their career and do something for our nation.
