Emerging from a small city like Udaipur, Prateek has been successful in becoming an engineering manager at the tech giant Google in the USA. He previously worked at companies like Siemens, Canon and E-Harmony amassing a lot of experience.

Prateek Jain has been working at Google in Los Angeles as an Engineering Manager for the last two years. He has sixteen years of expertise in the field, and formerly previously worked at Siemens, Canon, and E-Harmony before joining Google.

Prateek's career has been generally successful, but he remembers an incident from his college in Bangalore. He was the first to be placed during campus placements, but was unable to join the job because of a back injury that required him to take six months rest. Luckily, he had support from his extended family. He remembers eating three rupee meals everyday and walking for long distances simply to save money. Above all, though, according to Prateek, he loved his profession and used to really enjoy writing software. He kept his hopes high and it kept him going. For him, everything started coming together gradually.

Looking back on his early years, Prateek shares that he grew up in a joint household and attended Alok School in Udaipur for his education. He started working while still in college, running a cybercafé with three computers in Udaipur's old city area.

Prateek used to spend his childhood riding his bike and playing cricket with his friends. He loved exploring Udaipur's Gulab Bagh and Doodh Talai neighborhoods with his friends.

According to Prateek, the three Cs crucial for success in his line of work are: Curiosity, Commitment, and Communication. Curiosity to learn since there is always something new to learn in this field. Commitment to be able to conquer difficulties and maintain focus on the final result and delivery. Finally, but just as importantly, Communication is essential for bridging the gap between technology and issues that remain unresolved.

Prateek emphasizes the need of having an intense passion for the job for those aspiring to enter the software sector. In his opinion, this kind of work necessitates lifelong learning and demands a strong sense of teamwork. Though you might succeed in the field at first, if you are not fully committed to it, you would not be able to sustain yourself in it in the long run.

According to Prateek, education offers a strong basis, opens doors to excellent job opportunities, and presents chances to interact with intelligent individuals. He believes that you learn more from connecting with people who are outstanding in their respective fields. He has been extremely lucky to have such coworkers in every position he has held, who have been invaluable in his learning and development.

Prateek enjoys reading biographies a lot. He believes there is a lot of motivation in life to be found in reading about decisions people made that transformed their lives. Though he has no role model in particular, he reads these biographies when he needs motivation.

If he gets a time machine, Prateek would prefer to go back in time and make some changes, so he would focus more on his math and science studies in his younger years. According to him, the basis for future learning is provided by the knowledge gained in primary school.

Although Prateek thinks it's a misconception, he notes that it's commonly believed that leadership is something that extroverts possess. He believes that early in life is a great time to develop leadership qualities. Leadership skills demand an open mind and a willingness to learn. A leader ought to be selfless and find joy in seeing their team succeed. Prateek leads with a trust-and-verify approach. The only thing between success and failure in a project is the team involved. As a manager, he invests time in recruiting the most competent and astute individuals for his team. Also, he believes leaders must radiate confidence and inspire their group to succeed. Although they shouldn't micromanage, leaders must be observant. They have to be easily accessible so they can help their team members.

Prateek is inspired by those who are confident and committed to their work. The Japanese habit of appreciating hard work is what inspires him.

Prateek enjoys reading books, especially biographies, in his spare time. He also likes to hike and bike in Los Angeles.

The song "Phoolon ke rang se, dil ki kalam se'' from the well-known Bollywood film "Prem Pujari '' is Prateek's favorite.

Prateek ends by adding that although things could go out of control, it is ultimately up to us to find joy in the little things in life.
