Prashant K Sarkar is a Delhi-based Artist. He makes sculptures as well as paintings. In addition, he also plays various musical instruments. He runs his Art school in Delhi under the name ‘Kalakriti School of Art and Culture.’
Prashant was born in an artist family in Delhi. He shares that both his father and grandfather were renowned artists of their times.
Prashant shares that while he was in school, he considered becoming a CA by seeing his friends, and upon his special request, the school administration added painting as a subject in the commerce stream. But he soon realized that commerce and accounts were not his cups of tea. He made the decision to pursue a profession in art, considering it his first choice. Then he graduated in Visual and Performance Arts from the College of Arts, New Delhi.
While studying Commercial arts, Prashant started an advertising agency during college. He successfully ran that agency for several years, in which he used to do all the work of designing and printing posters, hoardings etc. However, fed up with the credit policy of this business, he dissolved his agency in 1999 and ventured into the Institute line. He claims that up till now, he has turned many students into professional artists.
Recalling his childhood, Prashant says he was artistically inclined from the beginning. But from a tender age, he was also interested in playing musical instruments and he learned to play the Tabla at the age of four. Around the same time, he also began learning to make clay sculptures. Right from the eighth grade, he started designing and painting commercially for corporate companies and magazines. Moreover, with his own earned money, he took his school and college education.
Talking about his achievements, Prashant says that people appreciating and promoting his work is no less than an achievement for him.
In his spare time, Prashant is fond of playing musical instruments, listening to songs, and watching and reading the news.
Advising today’s generation, Prashant says that if you want to achieve something in life, then get up before the sun rises. He says that if you want to become an artist, then first find the area of your choice in this field. Then join a good college or institute for proper guidance. He adds that the sooner you start your career in this field, the earlier you will see the path to success.
Prashant requests to all the parents that instead of suppressing the skills of their children, encourage them to move forward. Also, do not underestimate the arts stream because if the right guidance is given in this area, one can attain heights. He adds that a good career can be made out of it too.
