Prashant Kulshrestha is an advocate by profession, having dealt in revenue cases at the Commissioner Court, Agra, for seven years now. Before that, he worked as a legal advisor for a company for a year or so, and then he came into practice. Prashant used to do part-time jobs during holidays at Tata Docomo, Talwalkars, and even NGOs to earn some extra money. Since his father is also a lawyer, it was a smooth journey for Prashant to get into practice and face the courts.
Prashant says that what we study in law theoretically is completely different from the practice in courts. With no experience, he first started with small cases, and now he deals with marriage cases as well. He completed his schooling at St. Augustine from 1st to 5th grade and then switched to the Government School in Agra, where he studied till 10th grade. Prashant then completed his senior secondary from GIC and enrolled in the BA-LLB five-year integrated course after his 12th. Prashant, meanwhile, also attempted judicial exams but could not continue with his preparation after some time.
For aspiring law graduates, Prashant says that one should have knowledge about every field and keep track of current events. He adds that those pursuing law should have the willingness to learn and know how to present reasonable arguments and facts in court. Prashant shares that after completing law, one can go for corporate and government jobs.
Talking about COVID, Prashant shares that it was not that tough for him to get clients since his father was already in the law profession. Hence, utilizing his savings and getting fees online through his clients kept him financially sound and stable.
Prashant has been active in extracurricular activities since his college days and has given lectures in colleges on women’s rights and property. He also got shortlisted out of 40 law faculties in Global Environment and Disaster Management, wherein he got an opportunity to visit Vigyan Bhawan. Prashant has also been felicitated by the Akhil Bhartiya Parishad as a young advocate. He has been a joint secretary at the Agra Commission Bar Association as well.
Remembering his childhood days, Prashant shares that he failed in his 9th standard and felt bad since his friends were promoted to the next class. He then put in all his hard work and secured 3rd rank in the same class, which gave him confidence. He says that his failure motivated him to do better.
To wrap up, Prashant shares that one should never take pride in oneself upon being successful. He believes that sincerity is an important trait behind a person’s success. He urges everyone to be disciplined, identify their talent, and never speak ill of anyone.
