An aspiring YouTuber, Prathana thinks that trusting the process and believing in yourself without waiting for someone to come and help you alleviate your miseries is the right way to live and lead your life.

Prathana Jagan is a Marketing and Content Strategist with Disguise Cosmetics, Bangalore. She is also a content creator and part-time model.

Prathana was born in Coimbatore. When she was two, her father got transferred to Bangalore and she grew up there. She went to Frank Anthony School in Bangalore. Currently, she is pursuing her PG in Digital Marketing.

Talking about her childhood, Prathana says that when she was eleven, she got diagnosed with Vitiligo, a disease that causes loss of skin color in blotches, and owing to that she would have to put makeup on her face. Due to her skin condition and her using makeup to conceal it, she had to face rudeness and bullying from her fellow classmates at school. And it was really hard for her to stand up for herself and fit in among others as a kid, she says.

Besides, Prathana shares that when she was in her bachelors, she was faced with a medical emergency, and owing to that she had to be hospitalized. All this while, her friends and other people had not seen her without makeup, and to put off makeup for the medical emergency made her feel traumatic as she feared how people would treat her after knowing her skin condition. However, after she was discharged from the hospital, she accepted herself the way she was and felt no need to cover herself with any makeup from thereon. Later, she also started YouTubing, posting her pictures on social media, and also modeling.

Talking about her challenges, Prathana says that receiving unsolicited advice to cure her skin condition was daunting for her. Besides, to accept herself the way she was and fit in among others was also quite challenging for her.

Talking about COVID, Prathana says that the pandemic was quite a tough situation for everyone. Many people had to lose their jobs. However, the pandemic was the time when she realized that she did not want to continue engineering. And she joined Disguised Cosmetics as a marketing and content strategist in Bangalore itself. Besides, she also started teaching people how to do video editing and the stuff.

Prathana doesn’t think that she is a born leader. According to her, leadership is about being empathetic, compassionate, and sensitive to those you lead and not imposing your beliefs on them.

Prathana thinks that education is important in life. However, just acquiring an educational degree just for the sake of it, adds no value to life, she says. Besides, she says that education helps you learn more about your background and it’s the real-life knowledge that’s more important than education. Further, she says that experience in life and what you learn from others is more important than any formal education.

Talking about her inspirations, Prathana says that her parents, friends, and relatives who helped her accept the way she was and fit in among others, are her inspirations.

Prathana believes that whatever happens, happens for a reason. She thinks that it’s not needed to pressurize yourself with planning your future goals.

Prathana shares that her mother struggles to live a normal life owing to her mental condition. If she had been given a chance to go back in time via a Time Machine, she would have wished to relive the moments she spent with her mother when her mother was all right. Apart from that she has no regrets in life whatsoever, and would not want to change anything in her past.

In her spare time, Prathana likes to learn about new ways of doing makeup and learn more about video editing. She also likes to take her dogs out for a walk.

Prathana’s message to people is that it’s important to be fully invested in what you do but at the same time you must keep a check on your mental health too.
