As a social worker and nursing staff, Prakash always considered serving people as an act of serving God.

In 1967, Prakash Samartha started working at RNT Medical College, Udaipur in the Nursing Department. He worked there till 2007 and retired as a Nursing Superintendent. Currently, he has been working with GBH American Hospital, Udaipur for the past fourteen years.

Prakash says that he worked at a government hospital prior to joining GBH American Hospital which is a private hospital. He differentiates between a government and private hospital by saying that at a private hospital the standard operating procedures are different and followed religiously. Besides, better medical facilities are provided at private hospitals. But one thing that is his dedication toward his work remained the same whether he worked at a government or private hospital.

To the new nursing staff that joins at the hospital, Prakash teaches them to be dedicated toward their work and work with honesty as he thinks that working in the medical sector is a work of social service.

Prakash shares that when he was in his first year of college, his family went through a tough period so much so that to make their two ends meet was challenging for them. His father expressed his inability to pay for Prakash’s college fees and asked him to do a job to support himself. His father by his contacts was able to admit Prakash to a three-year nursing course at RNT Medical College. Prakash says that hailing from the Jain community and working in the hospital and seeing the litter and faecal sludge around was quite obnoxious for him. But later he realised that serving patients was an act of social service and since then he started working with his heart and did his job honestly.

Prakash is proud of the fact that he always held his character high during his service and never took any sort of benefit from anyone.

Prakash shares that the Covid pandemic created a panic among the public and it made them weary of the situation. But he advises people to take things as they are and face them head-on instead of worrying about them. He advises people to take all the precautions and adhere to the protocols as set by the government to combat the virus.

Prakash is active in social service too. He has organized many blood donations, eye check-ups and surgical camps.
