Pournima Vishwas Mandlik is a promoter of yoga and Indian culture.
Pournima hails from Pune.
Recalling her childhood, Pournima shares that all her family members had always been involved in social work. She says that her father was a yoga trainer and used to take her and all her siblings for early morning exercises and trekking in the mountains. She remembers that one day she was unwilling to go to school and pretended to have a headache, but her father made her do pranayam at the very moment to cure her headache, and she had to go to school after that. She made it a habit to attend school every day and never missed a single class. Her father taught her to live a disciplined life, and she has imbibed all the teachings of her father in her life.
Pournima says that her parents always taught her to ingrain positivity in life. Doing yoga was compulsory for them; without it, they wouldn’t get a meal to eat. So, she practiced yoga every morning and felt the positive change that her parents always talked about.
She got married in 1971 and feels blessed to have a husband who is also a yoga practitioner. She feels delighted to say that her husband had won the PM Yoga Awards in 2018. She too has been working for the promotion of yoga with her husband. Currently, she is working with a yoga institute as the head of its examination department.
Talking about her mistakes, Pournima says that she has made no major mistakes in her life. She might have made some small mistakes, but they did not impact her life that much.
Sharing about her journey, Pournima says that she has learned to give her life a purpose from her family and husband. In the companionship of her husband, she got to experience new things. After completing her MA, she joined Pune University Vidyapeeth as an Assistant Professor for two years. She also taught History and Geography at Garware College, Pune.
Later, she shifted to Nashik with her husband. She used to help her husband in their business of manufacturing and repairing transformers. Together, they were actively engaged in the field of yoga too. She is also an active member of the Rashtriya Sevika Samiti, which she joined when she was eight years old
Pournima says her schedule is packed with all these activities, along with her household work. She is continuously working for the promotion of yoga and Indian culture, like spreading awareness, translating yoga literature, making verses, and interacting with her yoga gurus and other members. She has also contributed to the opening of the Yoga Mahavidyalaya in association with Kavikulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University.
Once, she was suffering from severe tonsillitis, and reciting Omkar helped her a lot. Thereafter, she worked to spread awareness about the benefits of reciting Omkar and also published a book on it. She also possesses all four levels of Reiki certification. She has also received several awards and appreciation for her social work.
When asked about her role models, Pournima says she is inspired by her parents, husband, in-laws, and gurus. All of them have played an important role in her life. Besides that, her willingness to work for society and especially for women makes her keep going.
Pournima’s life mantra is to devote her time appropriately to her family, society, the nation, and the worship of supreme beings, along with her personal work.
