Pooja Gupta is a Multimedia Artist in Environmental Communication with a focus on Wildlife and Conservation. She specializes in graphic designing, film-making, animation, fine arts and print media. Pooja helps media houses transform scientific research into visual media with good aesthetics and design value to be delivered to customers.
Pooja completed her Higher Secondary education in Hyderabad, after which she moved to Bangalore to study at Srishti Design School. There, she specialized in Digital Video production and also did a Diploma in the same domain. Pooja’s film talks about Exotic Birds and the consequences of Captive Breeding. After her graduation, she participated in an Art Residency in Himachal Pradesh and also worked in a Health Media company in Bangalore for some time.
After gaining some experience, Pooja got her first break in the Wildlife industry as an Educational Filmmaker for the Andaman & Nicobar Environmental team, a research station off Port Blair, where she learned about the nitty-gritty of Field and Marine Biology. Now it has been almost a decade that Pooja has been working in this space.
Talking about her inspiration, Pooja says that she has learnt a lot from her profession including about mangroves, the functioning of coral reefs and coexisting within landscapes in a sustainable manner. She believes in protecting our environment and the natural spaces from any kind of degradation be it through educational awareness, fundraising or community building.
Pooja says that it is really important to enjoy what you do and put your heart and soul into it to get the best of results. For youth who aspire to pursue environmental communication, Pooja suggests them to apply in the relevant organizations for volunteering or internship opportunities. She names a few organizations like Nature Conservation Foundation, Ashoka Trust for Research, Earth Collab, River Bank Studio and Green Hub.
