Irrespective of what people and his family had to tell him, Pawan always believed in himself and listened to his heart. Though he prepared for government jobs initially to stabilize himself in life, he eventually took to his passion for art as his profession and is quite an inspiration to artists like him.

Pawan Jangid is a wood and sketch artist by profession.

Pawan hails from a small town in the Baran district of Rajasthan.

Recalling his childhood, Pawan says that he had been interested in art from childhood itself. Growing up, he would love to sketch people’s and his friends’ faces. However, his passion for art took a backseat owing to his studies at school. But, when he joined college, he revived his passion for art again. He participated in various art competitions at his college and won several of them.

Pawan shares that initially his family wouldn’t support him in his pursuit of art. They would constantly ask him to prepare for government jobs. He prepared for government jobs for three years and during that span of time didn’t do any artwork at all. Unfortunately, he couldn’t have any luck at passing the exams even after his persistent efforts.

It was during the COVID pandemic that Pawan thought of utilizing his free time in doing something that satisfied his creativity. He started curating his art on wooden items and since then has never looked back and has been working as a wood artist and a sketch artist. His family also supports him now, he says.

When asked about his role models, Pawan says that he considers his paternal uncle, who is a wood artist, his role model and inspiration. He says that he works with his uncle only.

Talking about his challenges, Pawan says that initially, people would not support him and would try to demoralize him by citing that pursuing art was not a sustainable profession. And owing to that he tried to prepare for government job examinations but his interest always lay in art and he couldn’t pass the exams. However, some of his friends tried to boost his morale by saying that he had a talent and on the basis of it he would be able to earn a livelihood for himself in the event he didn’t pass the government exams.

To aspiring sketch artists, Pawan advises them to begin with a grading system to learn to draw perfect outlining, and then they can take to freestyle sketching. Besides, he advises them never to heed people and instead always listen to their hearts if they are really interested in art. Furthermore, he advises them to showcase their artwork to people, and their families, and they can also showcase it on social media.

His Life Mantra is to keep himself absorbed in doing something that really satisfies his creativity and thus he keeps his negative thoughts at bay. He advises people to talk to their friends to relieve their stress.
