Parul Bajoria is a Fashion Designer and her brand’s name is ‘Miharu.’ She is an entrepreneur who works with the local artisans of her district, Bankura in West Bengal.
Parul was born and brought up in Siliguri, West Bengal. After completing her schooling from there, she did her graduation and a two-year Diploma course in Fashion Designing from New Delhi.
Parul says that she had always been a creative person and that’s why she wanted to go into a creative field. She grew up in a business family where there was never any shortage of anything and hence earning money was never a necessity for her. She got married in Bankura district. But, after marriage, she didn’t want to be just a housewife. Along with taking care of her family, she also wanted to give a purpose to her life. In her struggle to find that purpose, she saw the amazing work done by the local artisans there and that’s when she decided to go for it. And after fifteen years of her marriage, she launched her brand, Miharu. She works with Dhokra Artisans, where Dhokra is a four thousand year old craft and they make Jewellery and Corporate Gifts for corporate clients.
The biggest achievement for Parul is that she has been able to work and connect with more than a hundred local artists under the same banner, and take that brand to the national and international level to revive and bring such an old craft in front of the world. She has promoted this art in both online and offline markets by getting associated with big merchants due to which she has also received many awards. She was felicitated by the FOSMI award for the Best Female Entrepreneur by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. She also comes among the top hundred women selected by the MSME Board.
During the first wave of Covid, Parul had a lot of pending orders from large retailers in bulk but many of the B2B orders got cancelled. But she had already placed such orders for production to the local artisans. But due to the cancellations of such huge orders, she could not understand how she would pay the local artisans. However, she raised some funds for the local artisans through Ketto and Amazon and she provided rations, medical aid and other necessary things to them. Then she collaborated with other craft communities also to help sell the products.
Those who want to join the field of craft, Parul advises them that if you are passionate about the creative things and have dedication to do this work, then you should step in as this field is very vast and it has a lot of scope. If you want success then you have to work hard because there is no shortcut to success.
