Pandit Mahesh Trivedi hails from the holy city of Pushkar and throws light on its origin.
Pt. Mahesh shares that, inspired by the forests and trees of Pushkar and staying there for a thousand years, Lord Brahma threw a lotus on the ground, which made the earth tremble. Since then, the place has come to be known as Pushkar.
Pt. Mahesh further reveals that Pushkar has the only Brahma temple in the world, as a result of the curse of Savitri. He shares that when Brahma decided to perform a yajna at the main Pushkar Lake, his wife, Savitri, could not be present at the designated time to perform the essential part of the yajna.
So Brahma married Gayatri and completed the yajna with his new consort sitting beside him. When Savitri finally arrived at the venue, she found Gayatri sitting next to Brahma, which was her rightful place. Agitated, she cursed Brahma that he would never be worshipped, but then reduced the curse, permitting his worship only in Pushkar.
Elaborating further, Pt. Mahesh shares that endowed by the powers of yajna, Gayatri diluted Savitri's curse, blessing Pushkar to be the king of pilgrimages. Thus, the Pushkar temple is regarded as the only temple dedicated to Brahma, where thousands come to perform religious rites. The temple is visited by pilgrims and holy men and sages after taking a ceremonial sacred bath in the Pushkar lake. A dip in the sacred lake is believed to cleanse sins, says Pt. Mahesh.
When asked about his role models, Pt. Mahesh says he draws inspiration from his parents, whose values helped him move forward in life.
Drawing a comparison between education and experience, Pt. Mahesh says that if there is no education, experience cannot follow.
To end with, Pt. Mahesh says that happiness and sorrows are part of life and that nothing stays forever. He advises everyone to do good deeds.
