Prem Puri Goswami belongs to Haldighati and feels proud about it. He has been living in Udaipur for the last twenty years and owns a famous tea stall near Saheliyon ki Badi, a famous tourist spot in Udaipur. His family members have served as Hindu priests for generations. He is popularly known as “Pandit ji” because a person who brought him to Udaipur in 1998 introduced him as the son of Pujari ji, and therefore people named him as such.
Prem says that he started his tea stall in 2007 with lemon tea, and it's been there for fourteen years now. Initially, he worked as a janitor in hotels. He says social media has been his salesman and has played an important role in earning his bread and butter.
Prem shares that he comes from a farming background. His father was illiterate, but he intended to educate his children. Prem could not complete his schooling because he had to help his father with farming.
Prem thinks that making mistakes is important, and one must acknowledge and accept their mistakes to learn from them and grow further.
Prem feels delighted when people appreciate the taste of the tea he serves and gets motivated to work even harder. He wishes to expand his work throughout the nation, but due to the COVID pandemic, he is holding back.
Prem grew up in a place where tourists dressed nicely with expensive gadgets in their hands. He always wondered that he could not even imagine having such things in his life, but today, he happens to have everything he wished for. He has gained fame among people around the world. Anybody coming to Udaipur searches for special or best tea in Udaipur, and social media pops his name as “Pandit ji ki chai—best tea in Udaipur”. That’s how he got recognition.
Prem says that he is constantly working to give a better upbringing to his children and focuses on their betterment. For him, experience prevails over education. Also, he thinks that if a child is good at studying and if he really wants to get educated, the kind of school doesn't matter.
Prem follows his father’s advice, which is also his success mantra: “Work in such a way that can give you fame, and when you are famous, your work will automatically be done”. He focuses on quality, quantity, and behavior to be complied with in his business.
Prem says one should never consider any work to be small or big and should not be ashamed of doing it.
Lastly, Prem recites a shloka of a great poet: “Jo dhrad rakhe dharm ko, ta hi rakhe kartar—take stand for your religion and deeds instead of falling for greed."
