Pallavi Sharma is a Dancer, Choreographer, and Director at Mudra Dance Studio.
Pallavi belongs to Indore. She did her schooling and graduation from there itself. She did her masters in Advertising and Public Relations Management. Simultaneously, she kept on taking formal training in Kathak and Bharatanatyam. She has also completed a diploma in Rajasthani Dance. She got married while doing her post-graduation and took on the responsibility of her family while continuing her studies at the same time.
Pallavi shares that after completing her education, she applied for a job and gradually opened her own dance class. After some time, they moved to Nagpur, as her husband got transferred there. She started her dance academy while also managing her household. Later, she moved to Pune with her husband.
Pallavi says that, when she came to Pune, she saw the increasing culture of western dance among the youngsters and wanted to connect them with Indian culture. She eventually opened her own academy and also started teaching Indian classical dance at a school. She instilled the importance of Indian classical dance in her students, and gradually many students joined her classes. She has represented India two times on the international level: first, when her project was selected, and second, when she performed in the International Dance Festival with her students. She helps her students and gives them different platforms to showcase their talents.
Talking about her struggles, Pallavi says that it wasn’t easy for her to manage both her family and career, but she kept working for it. Due to the multiple transfers of her husband from Indore to Nagpur, then to Pune, and again to Indore, it was challenging for her to adjust to a new place and start her class again as it takes time to gain students.
When asked about her role models, Pallavi says that her grandfather is her inspiration, who not only cared for his family but was also a social activist. Her guruji has also always encouraged and supported her.
Comparing education and experience, Pallavi says that both are essential parts of our lives. She feels that if we have the knowledge, only then will we be able to apply it to our experiences.
To all the aspiring teachers, Pallavi says that one should have dedication towards teaching and should realise the responsibility of educating their students so that they are able to understand everything.
Pallavi shares that she enjoyed playing with her colony friends. She also recalls going to a trekking camp for fifteen days, where she enjoyed being in nature.
If given a time machine to go back in time, Pallavi would like to inspire more people to connect with Indian classical dance.
