Pallabi Dowerah is a Bharatanatyam dancer from Guwahati, Assam. She says she had started dancing since she was five years old. She did formal Bharatanatyam training under the guidance of her Guru Padma Shri Pushpa Bhuyan.
Pallabi was also inclined towards yoga, wellness and fitness, so she pursued formal education in the field of yoga too. Her other educational achievement is that she is a Chartered Accountant and had worked for years in the banking sector.
Pallabi had always been passionate about dance but was initially hesitant to pursue it as a career due to familial pressures. She continued her job but didn't give up on her passion and started teaching dance to students in the after hours. What started with just five students, grew into a full-fledged dance academy where she also offers yoga, wellness and counseling sessions. Her dedication and love for dance have made her one of the most recognized and respected dancers in the city.
According to Pallabi, her childhood was a carefree and nostalgic time when they played outdoors and enjoyed imaginative storytelling. As technology and digital media were not prevalent during her formative years, she spent hours watching the limited programming available on DD National, particularly the mythological serials that left a lasting impression on her. She also fondly remembers dancing according to the dancing moves shown in those shows, relishing in the simple pleasures of her youth.
Speaking about her challenges, Pallabi says she was born in a family where there was more focus on studies than creative fields. She worked as an audit officer at ICICI Bank. But she never liked her job and always craved to get into the dance field. She used to cry in the washroom of her office for not being able to follow her dreams. But later, she insisted her parents allow her to choose her passion as her profession and give her an individual identity.
When asked about her achievements, Pallabi says her students participated in and won the first international dance competition held in Delhi in 2016. Because of this, her dance and fitness academy, “Satyapunu Academy '' got its identity among people. She and her students got the opportunity to perform in Dubai and Hong Kong. She was also among the Mrs. India Earth’s finalists. She won the “Gem Talent” award.
Referring to her mistakes, Pallabi says if someone has not committed any mistakes in life that means they have not lived their life yet. She feels if she knew that she would be happy in the dance field only, then she should have given her full time in this and not have spent time in any other field. So, she thinks everyone must follow their passion and give full time to the field in which they find true happiness.
Pallabi believes that time is a valuable resource that should not be wasted. She ensures that she spends her time productively by setting goals and working towards achieving them. She also has a strong belief in herself and her abilities, which helps her to overcome challenges and obstacles. Pallabi sees life as a blessing and makes the most of every opportunity that comes her way. Her positive outlook on life serves as an inspiration to those around her.
