With a passion for writing since childhood, Ozil pursued a career as a Bollywood lyrics writer.  Today, he is recognized for his remarkable work, collaborating with renowned music directors, he continues to refine his art.

Ozil Dalal is a Bollywood lyricist who has worked with many music directors. He started his journey by working on Coke Studio Season-3 with Amit Trivedi. Following that, he wrote songs for the movie "Blue Mountains" and his latest project is "The Kerala Story," where he has penned two songs. In addition, he collaborated with Tanishk Bagchi on the song "Makhna." Ozil feels fortunate to receive exciting opportunities in his line of work.

Recalling his childhood, Ozil shares his passion for writing, which began during his school and college days. Being a backbencher, he would often find himself scribbling down his thoughts. Over time, he naturally gravitated towards pursuing a career in writing, which led him to Mumbai. Initially, he wrote in English but later transitioned to writing in Hindi. Urdu, a language he learned from childhood, posed no difficulties. He describes himself as an introvert who found solace in expressing his emotions through writing.

Regarding his mistakes, Ozil doesn't recall many specific instances but emphasises the importance of writing “scratches” in the industry. He advises aspiring writers not to shy away from this practice, as it gradually polishes one's skills.

Reflecting on his journey, Ozil acknowledges his achievements, starting from Coke Studio, which he considers a significant milestone. He feels fortunate to have found good work and has received numerous accolades for his writing. He expresses his gratitude for having the opportunity to write songs for an English film, a dream come true for him. However, he humbly acknowledges that only he knows the struggles he faced and the sleepless nights spent crafting a single line for a song.

Ozil reveals that he draws inspiration from legendary lyricists such as Gulzar Sahab and Sahir Ludhianvi, an Indian poet. He started listening to their songs and learned valuable lessons from their work, which contributed to refining his own art.

Ozil’s life mantra is accepting whatever fate has in store. He emphasises the significance of patience and waiting for the right time for things to manifest.

Second, he suggests staying updated and following current trends. He highlights the importance of developing skills by listening to both old and new lyrics, gradually honing their craft.
