Om Prakash Mahatma is a Professor of Pharmacology at R. R. Dental College & Hospital, Udaipur.
Starting his career at Dr. SN Medical College, Jodhpur, Om Prakash served in the Pharmacology department of many colleges, including Sardar Patel Medical College in Bikaner, RNT Medical College in Udaipur, and SMS Medical College in Jaipur. Later, he took voluntary retirement and worked at Debari Dental College for a year. Afterwards, he went to Gujarat. He was promoted to Associate Dean there. However, later he joined a pharmacy college in Alwar and, within a year, served at Ram Gopal College of Pharmacy, Delhi.
Om Prakash also worked at BN College for a long time. In between, he went to America for some work with permission from the college, but the college appointed another professor in his place . In 2014, he left the job and joined R. R. Dental College & Hospital, Udaipur. Later, he joined the Ananta Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Center.
In 2016, he had to be admitted to Geetanjali Hospital as he had a serious heart condition. Due to the completion of 70 years of age, he was no longer allowed to teach at Ananta College. Currently, he is teaching pharmacology at R. R. Dental College, Udaipur.
Om Prakash says his father had a pharmacy company, and in order to expand the business, he pursued graduation and a master’s in Pharmacology from Banaras Hindu University. He joined Jodhpur Medical College three months before completing his master's. He also did an MSc in Medical Pharmacology along with his job. He also took the opportunity to pursue a Master in Hospital Administration along with his job.
Advising people who want to join the medical field, Om Prakash says you will have to learn a lot. Having a degree is not enough; you need to have practical knowledge of the field. Furthermore, you will also need to invest a long time in developing your skills and knowledge in the medical field.
