Om Daya is a sales manager at a Maruti Suzuki showroom.
Om was born in Udaipur. He has 14 years of work experience in automobile sales. He started working at Bajaj as a sales executive. He then joined Maruti Suzuki. Currently, he has been working as a sales manager since 2010. He is responsible for 100 executives and 10 team leaders in the sales department.
Recalling his childhood, Om says he used to bunk classes and go to play cricket. He still likes to play cricket.
One of the struggles Om faced was when he changed his occupation from the two-wheeler market to the four-wheeler market. Recalling the initial days of his work, he says that he had to perform door-to-door marketing. Nowadays, everything in sales is done mainly by references.
Om says that the automobile industry is usually the busiest in the first quarter, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all business operations were halted last year. Deliveries were delayed due to this, and sales were reduced. Customer care was of the utmost importance during this time. Notifying customers during this difficult time took utmost priority. During lockdown, despite all these professional challenges, he found more time to spend with his family.
Om has maintained good relations with sales teams over the past 12 years. He says that this experience has taught him to value his relationships with customers and other employees. He believes that a good leader should treat everyone in the team as family. He believes that a leader should distribute work effectively according to the level and skills of the subordinates.
Sharing his opinion on education and experience, Om says both play an important role in our lives. Experience is required in any business or job. If one cannot understand the needs of the customer, one cannot satisfy them properly. This can only be learned through proper communication and personal experience.
When asked about his role models, Om says that, as a professional, his father is a role model to him. He tries to learn and inculcate his father’s values in his work. Moreover, his other role model is his boss, who started his career from the bottom ranks. Whenever he is depressed or needs guidance regarding work, he always tries to learn from his boss.
Advising people who want to join the automobile industry, Om says one must understand the importance of customer and executive relations. One must be true to their word, as trust plays an important role in this industry.
