A cardiologist, Nishta has been working on women's heart disease issues in the United States. She has found that in women, the death rate from heart disease is higher compared to other diseases like cancer, especially in the United States.

Nishtha Sareen is an Interventional Cardiologist currently working in the United States. Besides, she is also the Director of the Women’s Heart Disease Awareness Programme run by the Ascension Medical Group, Frankenmuth in Michigan. She has done an MD, MPH, FACC and FSCAI.

Nishtha was born and brought up in Udaipur. Currently, she is studying about women's heart disease and spreading awareness among them about the symptoms of a heart attack.

Nishtha shares that she got the inspiration to become a doctor as she used to see his pediatrician father examine patients in his clinic. Since childhood, she had been fascinated by the heart, and so she decided to become a cardiologist. She realized she needed to work on women's health when her daughter was born. She believes that when we treat the females, which means we treat the generations, as if a female is healthy, it gives birth to a healthy generation.

Talking about her journey, Nishtha says that her best memories are of St. Mary’s School, Udaipur, where she got an education, hung out with friends, and also participated in various extracurricular activities. Then she went to RNT Medical College, Udaipur for her MBBS internship. She also did a part of her internship  at Harvard Medical School. Afterwards, she went to Harvard Medical College to analyze the changes in the systems of medicine, research, etc. There she realized that if she wanted to bring global change, she had to start from where the guidelines are made. So, she completed MD medicine in New York and then studied cardiology and interventional cardiology. She also did a three-year Master's in Public Health.

Nishtha shares that they started the women’s health programme center one and a half years ago and are now planning to open four more centers in Michigan, and they expect that within seven years it will be spread globally. She also says that she and her team took a step forward to screen women by contacting them through a mobile camp similar to the Vanity.

When asked about her challenges, Nishtha says that she faced many struggles, the first of which was adjusting to the cultural difference in a new country and the second of which was her field. She says in her field of interventional cardiology there are approximately 200 males working and she is the only female. She had to switch multiple jobs and multiple hospital systems to be in the field of women's health.

Sharing her achievements, Nishtha says that she was featured in the ‘Forty under Forty’ recognition, and she was also nominated by the Essential Health System for the ‘Thirty under Thirty’ award.

Nishtha believes that education and experience go hand in hand. She says in the field of medical science, education of all the doctors is the same, but the experience matters a lot.

If given a time machine, Nishtha would  like to spend more time with her brother.

Nishtha’s role models are her parents as well as three other people who supported her in the United States, like Dr. Samin Sharma, Dr. Shukri David, and Dr. John.

When asked about her life mantra, Nishtha says that she is inspired and motivated by the poem of Robert Frost that is, ‘The woods are lovely, dark, and deep, But I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep.’

Nishtha advises the women that if they want to go into this highly demanding field, it is important to be passionate and have the support of your partner and family members.
