Nirmal Singhvi is a Chartered Accountant based in Udaipur. He is also the Public Image Coordinator at Rotary International for three rotary districts.
Nirmal was born in a small village called Deoli, near the airport in Udaipur. When he was of a tender age, his father sent him to boarding school. It was challenging for him to live in a hostel away from home, and he used to miss his parents. Despite that, there were many extracurricular activities that he liked participating in. He was a topper in the commerce batch during higher secondary and was also adjudged the best hosteller. After studying law, he joined some multinational corporations in Mumbai during his initial training period. He enjoyed the challenges of the job. He won the appeals of his clients by solving those challenging cases. Soon enough, he became a professional expert; sometimes he won, sometimes he lost, but it was a learning experience nonetheless.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Nirmal says that all corporate firms were shut down due to the lockdown. Therefore, he, along with his colleagues in the same department, made a joint effort to communicate through the online medium. Online meetings with clients were also done to provide the required professional help and counseling. On a personal note, he was advised by his doctor to keep taking precautions, which kept his immunity high.
According to Nirmal, the youth of this generation become easily depressed over something they will not achieve. So, they need to be supported and encouraged to focus on their goals. They should have more patience and not be frustrated over failure, as it is part of the learning experience. Planning and effort are a must for success, and there is no shortcut. One should be disciplined in life to achieve their desired goals, asserts Nirmal.
Nirmal believes experience is required to solve problems in a profession, and knowledge is required to execute that experience. Education helps us learn many skills and prepares us for the difficult journey ahead in life, feels Nirmal.
When asked about his role models, Nirmal says that his parents and his principal have been his role models. Moreover, he learned from his seniors in the CA profession and fellow members of Rotary Clubs globally.
Nirmal devotes his free time primarily to social service. He does a lot of social service through Rotary. When he was the Rotary Governor of the Rotary District in 2008, he traveled more than one lakh kilometers by road, visiting all the clubs in the district and motivating them.
In his spare time, Nirmal likes to exercise and stay fit. Furthermore, he enjoys reading about the latest technologies and traveling.
Nirmal follows the quote, "The one who is busy lives easy."
