Nirbhayraj Singh Jhala is a DU and Stanford graduate making it big in the hospitality business. Making his restaurant plastic free and environmentally sustainable by using materials like bamboo, Nirbhayraj plans to take his concept of eating out to a pan India scale.

Nirbhayraj Singh Jhala is the owner of Oladar Village Restaurant and Café, Udaipur.

Nirbhayraj says that he started this place in 2016 after the name of the village Oladar where his family comes from.

Nirbhayraj was born in Udaipur. He did his schooling till the 5th standard from The Study School, Udaipur. He did his 6th to 12th standard from a boarding school in Indore named The Daly College. After that, he pursued Economics and Philosophy from Hansraj College, Delhi University, and Decision Analysis and International Relations from Stanford University.

Nirbhayraj then tried his hands at getting a job but the low salaries he was being offered did not interest him much. So, he started looking for a business idea and came into the hospitality business.

Talking about his struggles, Nirbhayraj says that going to a boarding school at the age of twelve was a bit tough initially. Also getting into colleges like Hansraj and Stanford was also tough. When he was in 10th standard, he got a chance to visit Germany as an exchange student which also was a big deal and a new experience for him. Professionally, getting permission from different government departments like Nagar Nigam or the Pollution department, etc. was a tough nut to crack for him.

When asked about his achievements, Nirbhayraj shares that his restaurant has a 4.6 dining rating in Zomato and has been receiving a certificate of excellence for the past four years from Trip Advisor. He played Basketball at the IPSC level and was also the head prefect in his school days, which are also his achievements.

Sharing his experince of the COVID-19 pandemic, Nirbhayraj laments the loss of many close ones and says he saw many others suffer severely from the disease. Professionally, he feels that the hospitality industry was the worst hit. His restaurant was also shut with zero revenue for about two years and still, he had to manage the fixed costs and salary costs which took a great toll on his finances.

Talking about his inspiration, Nirbhayraj says that Elon Musk inspires him a lot. His way of working and visionary leadership is what incite the passion in him to work more and more.

Talking about his Success Mantra in life, he says that hard work is the only thing that matters.

Putting forward his views on education and experience, he says that both are important in their respective ways. Education prepares one for what is impending in life and experience helps in growing as a person.

Talking about leadership, Nirbhayraj says that being a leader is not about personal success but is all about the collective success of the team. A leader should push their teammates to realize their true potential.

If given a Time Machine, he would like to relive his boarding school life and redo his university life to gain more experience and connect with more people.

For the youth aspiring to come into this field, Nirbhayraj advises being dynamic to be able to adjust to the changing scenarios. One has to be a bit of a people’s person and be an extrovert.

In his free time, he likes to play sports like squash and cricket. He also likes reading and is a movie buff.
