Nilesh Salunkhe is a professional musician, specifically a singer-songwriter. He also works with the Kirloskar Group.
Nilesh did his Bachelor in Engineering in the Mechanical stream. Besides, he has been writing songs since 2012 and formed a band named Nyasa in 2015. He has been doing his job and producing songs simultaneously since then.
When asked why he chose to be in music, Nilesh says that he has loved music since his childhood. He started learning how to play percussion instruments while he was in his third standard. He always had the will to do something original so he chose to be a musician.
Talking about his journey, Nilesh says that earlier, as a band, they were immature as artists and used to sing cover songs of popular artists. Thereafter, in the later years, they gave a try to create original songs. His very first independent song was named Nari which was completely based on Indian women, he says.
Regarding his achievements, Nilesh says that his biggest achievement is that his band has released sixteen original songs till now. They were also invited on Kappa TV to perform on their set. They have also performed for Rann Utsav, Karavali Utsav, and others all over India which he considers his achievements.
Speaking about the mistakes he has made in his life, Nilesh says that they have been moving steadily till now, and have not made any mistakes to regret. From being a jamming band to becoming original artists, their journey has been wonderful, he says. What’s more interesting is that his entire team members are working professionals and they are perfectly able to manage their work and their band simultaneously.
When free, Nilesh loves to play cricket and Badminton.
Sharing about his teachers and role models, Nilesh says that he is learning Hindustani Classical Music from Pandit Rajendra Kandalgaonkar. Earlier he learned music from Mr. P.N. Joshi and Mrs. Ravishankar. Further, he adds that he draws inspiration from A.R.Rehman and wants his band to be as good as his.
To attain peace, Nilesh prefers listening to music, and doing yoga and meditation.
To aspiring musicians, Nilesh says that it is not difficult to manage your profession along with your passion if you have the potential and zeal to do that.
