Neecia Majolly is a professional musician based in Bangalore. She is a concept pianist, singer, songwriter, choir director and conductor, teacher of piano and vocals, and composer. Neecia's versatility as a musician is truly remarkable. With her expertise in various musical roles, she has established herself as a prominent figure in the Bangalore music scene. Her ability to seamlessly transition between playing the piano, singing, conducting choirs, and composing showcases her immense talent and dedication to her craft.
Neecia began her musical career when she was just two and a half years old. Her father got her started on the piano. At first, her father would teach her little songs, which she would then imitate. She was able to read music by the time she was four. Neecia now works as a tutor and performer full-time. She also works for the welfare of Karnataka-based artists as a member of the Kannada Artists Association.
Describing her childhood, Neecia spent the formative years of her life in Brunei, a southeast Asian country, performing and learning music. Later in 1994, she moved to Bangalore to do something of her own. She started teaching and tutoring music privately. At the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Neecia was a member of several choirs. It taught her western classical music from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance era.
Sharing about her professional journey, Neecia says that she founded the Bangalore Society of Performing Arts in 2001 with the intention of highlighting regional talent. But regrettably, she was unable to sustain it over time. She considered establishing trust when her former pupil, who later became a music instructor, proposed that she launch a music school. She established the Majolly Music Trust in 2011. Currently, she is assisting and interacting with as many artists as she can through the framework of her trust.
Speaking about her achievements, Neecia says she has won many awards and accolades throughout her musical journey to date. She is the frontwoman, composer, and arranger for her alternative rock group, The Majolly Project. The group's debut single, "Dark Room," was nominated for a 2015 International Music and Entertainment Award for Rock Song of the Year and won gold medals for Best Song and Best Emerging Artist at the Global Music Awards. At the 2016 Akademia Awards in Hollywood, the second single, "Whitebone," took home Silver Medals for Best Song and Best Music Video in addition to Best Alternative Rock Video. At the 2016 IMEAs, The Majolly Project was nominated for Rock Artist of the Year and the third single, "The Other Side," for Rock Song of the Year. The 2018 IMEAs saw The Majolly Project win 'Alternative Artist of the Year. The debut album 'Please' was released in 2017.
Neecia is generally working, but in her spare time, she enjoys taking care of and spending time with her five pets. In addition, she enjoys watching YouTube music videos and films. In order to better manage her day, she also meditates in the morning. She adores music, books, and travel, to put it briefly. She likes K-dramas and always watches them before she goes to bed.
If she could get a time machine to travel back in time, Neecia would prefer to travel back in time to her childhood since it was the happiest time in her life. It was joyful and melodic. Even though she thinks it's important to live in the now, she wishes she could go back to those carefree days.
To the young musicians, Neecia advises that the first thing required to accomplish something is to believe in yourself and don’t be delusional about what you can do. Besides, you have to be very realistic about the talent that you have and what you can do with it. Instead of competing with others, compete with yourself and try to be better every day.
