Navneet Singh is an Executive Member of an NGO, Gayatri Memorial Foundation. He was born in Firozpur, Punjab.
Early in his childhood, his mother passed away and then Navneet shifted to Gurgaon. He has done his graduation in International Business and Finance and Masters in Social Work from Jamia University. He has been working for the past sixteen years for the upliftment of tribals, specifically women.
Navneet says that currently he is working in the fields of resource mobilization and program management, and taking care of the CSR initiatives of GMF. Navneet informs that they are working in three states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. He has been awarded six times as the ‘Best Social Worker of India’ by IIPM. He has also received an award by CII for his innovation of setting up the first HIV and STI treatment clinic on the Agra-Mumbai highway on PPP mode in association with the Gas Authority of India. He is working in association with IMPACT, which is an initiative of IIM Ahmedabad alumni, in the field of girls education and they are supporting the primary education of 1200 girls at the moment.
Navneet also shares his delight about ‘Project Sakhi’, where they rescued women working in a brick making factory and provided them with training in the field of stitching and sewing. These women are now out of the exploitative work they were in and making 15000 Rupees a month from stitching uniforms for GAIL Associates.
Navneet says that during Covid, their work increased manifold. They were the first to start distributing dry ration kits to migrants and daily wage laborers and managed to give away 7000 such kits. Navneet also informs that he lost two of his colleagues due to Covid and even started a campaign to raise funds for their families. Navneet feels that the pandemic has made us realize the uncertainties of life.
Navneet feels that the present generation wants quick results. They do not want to go deep in the field or work with locals and villagers. They look for shortcuts and salary hikes with no experience. He says that first, a person must get experience in the field by working with NGOs like ‘Pradhan’ which provides hardcore grassroots experience.
Navneet considers his best friend from college, Kailash, as his role model. He shares that Kailash has a very flexible personality and mixes with the villagers in the same way as he can mix with big corporate clients. His humbleness and composure inspire Navneet the most.
Navneet feels that Experience and Education both are necessary in life. He says that experience has helped him a lot in the field of social work. With experience, one can earn more than an educated person as well. However, he also argues that education is important for the overall mental development of a person.
Navneet says that we should not hurt anyone intentionally in life. We should focus on our own lives and not on others’. We should work on our progress and not get jealous of what others are doing in their lives.
If given a Time Machine, Navneet would like to go back in time and spend more time with his mother as he lost her at a very early age in his life.
In his free time, Navneet likes to make funny videos with his son and play with his many pets.
