Naval Kishor Tharoda is the founder of Dreamers: The Dancing Palace and Indian Dance Week.
Naval has been teaching Dance for the past ten years and running his own classes for eight years. His interest in dancing grew from his school days when he used to participate in annual functions and celebrations.
Naval says that he has struggled a lot to achieve his dreams. His sister supported him financially and he also did jobs like distributing newspapers early in the morning. He learned Western Dance for three years and meanwhile developed an inclination towards Classical Dance as well.
He went to an Academy named ‘Natraj’ to learn classical dancing. However, he requested them that he will not be able to pay the fees but can work there in lieu of it. However, seeing his interest in dancing he was hired by them and also got paid for teaching Dance. After working for two years in Natraj, Naval decided to open his own studio.
Naval informs that now he has three such studios running and around fifteen people are assisting him. He also talks about Indian Dance Week, a dancing camp he envisioned and organized. He says that many great dancers like Kartik Raja agreed to be a part of it and teach students in this camp. He earned a good profit in this and then organized a second season of it as well. He made a budget estimate of around twenty-five lakh this time and called in forty-two artists to attend it. Artists like Meher Malik, Sagar Bora, Abhishek Das, Ravi Verma, Kartik Raja, Dheeraj Soni and Sagarika attended this season and around 150 students enrolled in the same.
Naval says that he also worked at Maharaja University for a year as a choreographer. He has visited Universities like J. K. Lakshmi and Manipal as a judge. He has also attended workshops in Mumbai and is also a certified Zumba Instructor.
Naval says that dancers like Paul Marshal, Dharmesh, and Raghav Juyal are his Role Models. He learns from seeing them dance on television. He feels that we can learn many things from people around us.
Naval says that everyone witnesses a break in their life someday. For him, it was his mother getting diagnosed with the last stage of Lung Cancer. Naval says that doctors had advised him to keep her happy as she did not have much time left. He says that the Covid lockdown gave him much time with her mother and considers it a boon for himself. After her mother passed away, Naval got into the trap of negative thinking and was helped by his friends to overcome his grief.
He advises the youth to first learn about the field they are planning to get in. He laments that people are more concentrated on just earning money and do not take proper training. He feels that one should first learn something, then work somewhere to take experience and then teach it to others.
Naval says that whenever you feel low or depressed just think about your dreams and keep moving forward in life.
