In his long-standing career in the hotel industry, Narendra has seen lots of ebbs and flows. But he never gave in and faced every difficulty determinedly and made for himself a life which was nearly impossible for the circumstances he grew up in.

Narendra was born and brought up in Udaipur. He received his school education in Udaipur itself. He did his BA and a diploma in Hotel Management. In 2011, he started working in the hotel industry and he is continuing ever since. Currently, he is working as a hotel manager at Amar Kothi, Udaipur.

During the Covid pandemic, Narendra had to shut his restaurant outlets in the city. He had to bear some financial losses. But on the personal front, he got to spend time with his family and learn new things. He says that a hotelier barely gets any free time to attend any festival or family functions owing to their work. But the pandemic gave him the opportunity to be with his family, dine with them and spend time together.

Talking about his childhood, Narendra says that it was a bit of a struggle for him. He belonged to a farmer’s family. His father was paralysed and bedrideen owing to some medical conditions. He spent the formative years of his childhood in his village. Later his father moved to Udaipur city and they started living in a rented house. Sometimes he had to face the landlord's tantrums. He played Judo at the national level. Later he also tried for a government job in Judo but owing to reservation he couldn’t get it. His father didn’t earn much but still he supported him to play Judo.

Talking about struggles in his life, Narendra says that he tried for government jobs, but couldn’t get any. Later he started working at a relative’s jewelry business and he could support his family financially and practise his Wrestling at the same time. Then he got a better paying job at a hotel. He worked there for a year in night shifts. Later when he stumbled upon an advertisement about a diploma course in a local daily he thought of doing the diploma. He asked his family and did his diploma in Front Office Management  from the Food Craft Institute, Udaipur.

During his diploma, Narendra learnt how it is to work in the hotel industry. He had to be disciplined, punctual and well groomed at all times. After completing his diploma, he did his six-month-long industrial training from Hotel Sheraton, Udaipur. Then he did his first job at Hotel Udai Kothi, where he learnt a lot and it groomed him into a professional hotelier. In 2015, he went to Pushkar, Ajmer and worked there at a hotel. It was the first time he was away from his home. In 2016, he came back to Udaipur and started building his own house. He got married in 2017. Later he opened his restaurant and a hotel in partnership. All was going well and he was fulfilling his materialistic dreams until the pandemic struck and it turned things upside down at his end. In 2021, he again started doing a job at Hotel Amar Kothi, Udaipur.

Narendra considers his Judo coach Sushil Jain as his role model who taught him to lead a strict and disciplined life. He represented his college thrice in Wrestling at the national level. He was a silver medalist at the state level in Wrestling. He also established good relationships with his guests by giving them good services when he worked in the hotel industry.

Narendra says that he learnt leadership from his grandfather and father. He always learnt from them how to help people and take people and the family along.

Narendra believes in working along with his team members rather than just instructing them. He says that working with them and making them feel as his family members helps him accomplish his task efficiently and in time.

To anyone who wants to work in the hotel industry, Narendra advises that it doesn’t matter whether you know English or not. You just need to know how to put your thoughts ahead and understand what others have to say. Besides, he says that you have to be patient and a good listener whilst dealing with and redressing the grievances of your guests.

Narendra advises that you need to have a goal to be successful in life. He says that you should decide small targets for yourself to achieve bigger things in life. Besides, he advises that instead of working half-heartedly, if you pursue what you’re interested in, you will surely get success sooner or later.
