Narendra Jangir was born in Churu, but was raised in Mumbai as his father was posted with the Indian Navy there. He completed his schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya in Mumbai. In 2010, he did his Bachelors in Hotel Management from Kohinoor College, Mumbai. Then he did his training in the UK.
Narendra says that he started to cook when he was in 9th-grade as at that time his mother was not keeping well. Later he grew interested in cooking and chose to pursue his undergraduate studies in Hotel Management after high school.
Talking about Covid, Narendra says that the pandemic has been tough for him. During the first lockdown, in the light of the pandemic, he had to keep his cafe shut which was quite tough for him. But when things became a bit normal, he opened up his cafe again and got a good response from people in the city. During the second lockdown, he did online delivery of food and the items served at his cafe.
According to Narendra, in the field of Hotel Management, your education helps you to work for a reputed hotel. But one learns with experience in this field. He says that one learns a lot from one’s mistakes and working with your seniors in this field. Whereas your education is just a passport to working for a good hotel.
To aspiring chefs, Narendra says that now is the right time to become a chef as more and more chefs are gaining popularity on social media because of their posts about the food they cook. Besides, he says that one should love cooking to be successful as a chef. Furthermore, he says that the tourism industry is booming and post the pandemic more and more people will travel and hence there will be good opportunities for you as a chef.
Narendra acknowledges the fact that his mother always encouraged him to cook. Besides, he says that his teachers and his friend Milan always supported him and encouraged him to learn to cook different delicacies.
Narendra feels that Indian food is getting appreciation all across the world and therefore we as Indians need to respect and promote our local cuisines.
Narendra considers it as his success when his customers like his food and they pay their visits to his cafe again.
In his free time, Narendra likes to spend time with his son whom he considers his everything.
To youngsters, Narendra’s piece of advice is to choose a career for themselves based on their interests. He says it’s very important to find what you love to do, else your life will be a hustle for you.
