Describing her journey, Namrata says that she initially started with Bharatnatyam under the guidance of her guru, Indira P.P. Bora. She then travelled to Bangalore for training with M.R. Krishnamurthy. She also did law in Bangalore and pursued dance in Chennai for a few years. She taught dance at the Shankara Foundation in Bangalore. She received her masters degree in Bharatanatyam from Chennai. After coming back to Guwahati, she also started exploring Manipuri dance. She got inspiration from her sister to learn therapeutic movements and learned them from the Creative Movement Therapy Association of India, in Bangalore.
Namrata shares that learning to dance has been difficult for her because language is a barrier for her. It is difficult for her to establish herself as a Bharatanatyam dancer because she is from the northeast, she says.

Sharing her achievements, Namrata says that she got various awards, like the Award of Excellence in the field of art and dance from the Women Economic Forum and a contribution award from the All Ladies League. Her performances at different places are also an achievement for her.
When asked about her role models, Namrata says that her biggest inspirations are her grandmother and mother, from whom she learned to maintain the balance between personal and professional life. Her guru, M.R. Krishnamurthy, is also her role model, having taught her discipline and simplicity.
To beat stress, Namrata loves to dance, do meditation, and listen to music. She claims that dance has always been a part of her life.
Namrata's life mantra is to appreciate both life and the body.
