Namrata Sarmah is a YouTuber and Content Creator. She runs a YouTube channel of her own under the name ‘Cooking with Namrata’, which she started in 2013. She hails from Assam and currently resides in Noida.
Sarmah has also been the recipient of the Annapurna Award by Lucknow Chefs Pankh Foundation. She also participated in an online contest on healthy drinks in which she bagged the second position.
Her YouTube channel features Indian cuisines made with unique ingredients, such as preparing samosas using whole wheat flour and chickpea flour with brinjal filling, instead of the traditional all-purpose flour and potato filling. Her dish, Kale Moti Kebab is also prepared in a unique style, the recipe for which is available on her YouTube channel. Other delicacies include Rajasthani Dal and specialities from Assam.
Namrata Sarmah often recalls the advice from her mentor, Davinder Kumar Sir, who encouraged her to pursue cooking as a passion rather than entering the hotel industry. Taking his advice to heart, Sarmah chose to keep cooking as a passion while focusing on a different career path professionally.
Talking about her inspiration to start cooking, Namrata Sarmah shares that it was her parents who used to do excellent cooking. Later, she met chefs- Saurabh and Davinder Kumar, who inspired her further to follow her hidden passion for cooking.
Reflecting on her early days, Namrata Sarmah shares that she was born in Assam and completed her education till the 3rd standard in her hometown. Thereafter, she came to Delhi and pursued the rest of her education there. She opened her YouTube channel in 2013 and is currently looking for a job. Sarmah credits her success and the accolades she has received to Chef Davinder Kumar, who has been her source of support and guidance in her cooking journey.
When asked about her role models, Sarmah says she considers Davinder Kumar Sir her greatest source of inspiration and remains forever grateful for his guidance. She finds motivation in the lines- ‘Gurur Brahma, Gurur Vishnu, Gurur Maheshwara’ while remembering all her teachers.
Advising budding cooks and food enthusiasts, Namrata Sarmah suggests them to learn cooking from all angles as it is a culmination of art, science, and knowledge. She says, in cooking, one should be particular about the quantity of different ingredients while being innovative and maintaining hygiene.
Sarmah says that one should never lose heart if they don't win a competition, as winning and losing are just parts of life.
