Mrudang Desai is a performing artist and the founder of Mrudang Dance Academy in Pune. Besides, he is a pranic healer and also a video editor professionally.
Mrudang was born and brought up in Mumbai. He received his school education in Mumbai itself. Currently, he is settled in Pune.
Talking about his childhood, Mrudang says that his entire childhood was spent in Mumbai itself. Growing up he was a timid and quiet kid and loved watching cartoons. He never really liked dance and music as a kid. He always wanted to make his career in the field of science only.
Mrudang shares that it was his mother who nudged him to learn dance. She enrolled him in a dance class. He says that initially, he would be petrified to speak and perform in front of people as all this while he had never been with many people. However, with time, he realized that dance was his passion, and today he can perform and speak in front of any number of people, he says.
Mrudang shares that after his twelfth grade he did not study further. However, he sat for many national-level dance exams and also did a few diploma courses in Animation. He also used to teach video editing and animation.
In his spare time, Mrudang likes to do video editing. Besides, he also likes to do meditation and go to the gym. Furthermore, he likes to read self-help books and play the synthesizer. He says that he tries to utilize his free time for his self-growth to the best he can.
Talking about his struggles, Mrudang says that he always fought with himself and let his work speak for himself without getting affected by what others thought of him.
Mrudang advises people that it’s not important how much you know but how much you can do with what you know surely is. Besides, he advises them to follow their passion and love their work.
His Success Mantra is to focus on yourself, sharpen your skills and be aware of what you’re made of, and use that as your strength to survive in this world.
When asked about his role models, Mrudang says he considers his parents, who always supported him in all his ups and downs, his role models.
Sharing his COVID experience, Mrudang says that the pandemic was a blessing in disguise for him. He got a much-needed break after a long time. During the pandemic, he focused on himself and read books, did meditation, and polished his skills. Besides, he also conducted online dance classes, and thus he could survive the pandemic financially.
To aspiring dancers, Mrudang advises them to also focus on their studies to fall back on in the event things don’t work out for them in the field of dance. Besides, he advises them to make their base strong and learn different techniques and forms of dance to survive in the longer run. Furthermore, he advises them to read good books and utilize their skills to the best they can as not everybody has skills.
