A multi-talented personality, Moumita faced many ups and downs but worked hard to achieve her desired goals in the fashion industry.

Moumita Mukherjee is a Senior Merchandiser at Otto Agn International Ltd. in Gurugram.

Moumita was born in Varanasi but brought up in Kolkata. She completed her studies until the tenth grade at St. Joseph’s Convent, Kolkata. She also took a four-year degree course in Fashion Design and Garment Technology. She also did a one-year Diploma in Garment Manufacturing and Textile Design from Gurugram Moumita shares that she had been interested in art since childhood. She loved to dress and saw her mother in beautiful dresses. As she belongs to a Bengali family, her base was based on culture and art, so she got motivated toward the fashion industry. Subsequently, she decided to make her career in this field.

Talking about her hardships, Moumita says that she has struggled a lot to reach where she is today. She didn’t get financial help from her parents and used to do a full-time job in Gurugram to continue her studies. But she never gave up and worked hard to achieve her goals.

Moumita’s role model is her mother, who has always supported and motivated her. Her mother sacrificed a lot and faced many hardships for her.

Sharing her achievements, Moumita says that in 2008 she cracked the NIFT exam and got the second rank. She was also very good in co-curricular activities and completed her ‘Prabhakar’ in Kathak and Rabindra Sangeet. She represented West Bengal in interstate swimming as well. In today’s scenario, leading the team in the absence of her boss is the biggest accomplishment for her.

Conceding her mistakes, Moumita says that she has made a couple of mistakes in her life. Earlier, she made the wrong decision to join a company that didn’t give her the recognition that she deserved. It was her mistake to not choose wisely, but she learned to think before making any decisions.

Moumita advises the youth that they should feel free to do whatever they love to do. Instead of following the path of others, it is important to analyse your area of interest. She says that the world of fashion has opportunities as well as challenges, but if you have a love for fashion, then you will definitely shine in this field.

Comparing education and experience, Moumita says that both have their own importance. She says that to reach someplace, the first step is education, and the second step is gaining experience. In the fashion industry, an individual can learn more through physical activities or practicals. A proper balance between education and experience is important for achieving success.

In her spare time, Moumita likes to draw and paint. She also loves to dance.
