Moti Singh Rathore retired as a Regional Manager of the Rajasthan Tribal Area Development Co-operative Federation Ltd. in 2014.
Moti Singh originally hails from Kurabad, a village in Udaipur but is settled in Udaipur city. He completed his primary schooling in his paternal village, Bemla. Then he completed his middle school from Kurabad. Thereafter, he completed his tenth grade from BN School in Udaipur. He completed his bachelors and masters from MLSU Udaipur.
Moti shares that right after his masters, he got the job of a supervisor at a cooperative bank in Udaipur itself. His work as the supervisor would involve loan advancements, loan recoveries, etc. In 1981, he got selected as an assistant regional manager at the Rajasthan Tribal Area Development Co-operative Federation Ltd. He worked as an ARM for about five years and then, with his work experience, he was promoted to the post of regional manager at the federation. During his stint with the federation, he worked for the upliftment of tribals and farmers in his area of supervision. Besides, he also worked to prevent the exploitation of fishermen by providing them the right price for their produce.
When asked about his role models, Moti says that he considers his mother, who always valued education and motivated him and his siblings to study, his biggest role model.
Moti feels downhearted that though he wanted to become a doctor and studied in the Science stream in higher classes, he could not pursue his dream of becoming a doctor due to his family’s financial constraints. But later he opted for the Arts stream and did well, both in academics and sports, in college.
Moti thinks that without experience no work can be done. And without education, one can’t stand for oneself and be determined in life. Further, the right balance between both education and experience helps one do better in their profession or life.
Moti shares that he always wanted to become a police officer and even cleared the exam for the post of Sub Inspector conducted by the Indian Railways but he laments that due to not meeting the physical standards as set by the examining body, he couldn’t join the railway police.
To people who aspire to work in the field of tribal development, Moti advises them to be sincere, and physically fit, and to have good command over the local languages. Further, he tells them that if they can adapt to any environment, they can surely work in this field.
Talking about COVID, Moti says that during the pandemic, nature could heal itself. Besides, people got a break from their busy lives and were able to spend time in their homes.
