Carrying forward the artistic legacy of his great grandfather, Mohit became a sandalwood carving artist and dreams of opening a museum to display his family’s artwork.

Mohit Jangid is a sandalwood carving artist based in Udaipur. He belongs to a family of national awardees who have been recognised for their artistic work.

Mohit was born in Jaipur, but his family originally belonged to Churu. Recalling his childhood, Mohit says he grew up in an environment full of artists and kept gaining skills along the way. He began carving in eighth grade and won a state award. Mohit is a graduate in commerce.

In order to carry out his family legacy, Mohit decided to participate in international art competitions in China, Dubai, and the USA. He has been a recipient of the Kamla award.

Talking about his challenges, Mohit shares that sometimes it gets difficult to meet customer expectations, which results in a loss of artistic freedom. He adds that achieving a particular level of perfection sometimes becomes difficult in the artistic field.

When asked about his role models, Mohit says he draws inspiration from his great-grandfather. He admires him for the hardships he endured in order to lay the groundwork for his family's future.

Mohit also conducts free art workshops for the young generation to enable them to learn about and value art. He adds that, thanks to technology, it has become easy to learn anything these days. Mohit aims to create a museum in the future to display his family's art collection.

When free, Mohit listens to music and spends time with his team of craftsmen.
