Meghana Kulkarni Joshi is a playback singer in the Kannada movie industry. She is also a dubbing artist and a voice-over artist. She has also received a “Vidwath” in Bharatanatyam.
Meghana had completed her degree in civil engineering and had also worked for the civil engineering industry for a few years.
Describing her childhood, Meghana says her childhood was pretty simple and wonderful at the same time. Her parents put her in the best school to provide her with the best education. Her parents also encouraged her to pursue extra-curricular activities and sher joined music classes when she was only six years old. For her music career, she gives credit to her mother, who always pushed her to learn music and dance.
Speaking about her professional journey so far, Meghana says she has learned Hindustani classical music along with light music. She says her journey started with some reality shows in which she took part and got leads from her various fellow music artists. She says because of her classical singing training, and her earlier experience with All India Radio, where she was a graded artist; she took little time to understand the working of recording studios. She started getting new opportunities in the Kannada movie industry. Along with her playback singing, she started working as a dubbing and voice-over artist for the movies.
When asked about her role models, Meghana says she considers her parents and teachers as her role models. She says her teachers showed her the path and parents encouraged her to follow the path. She says as a singer she believes all the legendary singers like Lata Mangeshkar, Janaki, Shreya Ghoshal and many more are passive role models for her.
In her free time, Meghana likes to do embroidery and pot painting. She also likes to do compèring in live music and dance shows.
Meghana’s life mantra is - “Keep smiling, your attitude is everything”. Her other mantra is “Don’t say no to anything until you try it”.
Meghana’s piece of advice for the youngsters would be to never fall for fame, and never run after money. Strive for knowledge and make your basics strong. Fame would be momentary, but your work will keep you going.
