Meenakshi Singh is a Bangalore-based Entrepreneur. She is the Co-Founder of the brand ‘Capsul: India’s first multi-brand streetwear store’ and has been running this store for the past three years.
Meenakshi was born in Patna but raised in Samastipur, Bihar. She graduated in Lifestyle and Accessory Design from NIFT, Bangalore. Her first job was at Tanishq and from there, she switched to Puma’s Marketing team. Meenakshi says, at that time, a streetwear fashion sense started developing among the people and international companies began collaborating for streetwear fashion. She was motivated by this to launch her own streetwear company in India.
Recalling her childhood, Meenakshi says growing up in a small town with fewer resources, she had many aspirations and wanted to become an IAS officer, a doctor, or an engineer. She was assimilated into her culture in childhood.
Describing her struggles, Meenakshi says that starting her own brand in the streetwear collection was not easy because no international brand was willing to offer her brochures. It was not an easy feat for her in this situation to persuade them to develop a streetwear brand in India. She first worked with five brands as a part of her brand consultancy. From then, it has been a difficult process for her to expand to working with twenty-nine brands.
Regarding her achievements, Meenakshi says that her biggest achievement is the massive support that she gets from the youth of the nation at each of her events.
When asked about her role models, Meenakshi says her peer group is her biggest role model that includes her business partner, Bhavisha, her family, and friends who are always up to something and support her to move ahead in her career.
In her spare time, Meenakshi enjoys visiting concept stores, traveling, and spending time at luxurious hotels.
Meenakshi’s advice to those looking to make a career in the streetwear industry is to come with an open mind and heart. She tells them that reaching out to as many brands as you can, will help their business grow because collaboration is important in today’s world. She also urges them to build their USP to stand out from the competition and to make people trust and stick to your brand.
