Education and experience together create a powerful combination for growth.
Majid Khan works as the Administrative Head at the Vision Group of Colleges in Chittorgarh. He also owns his own primary school called Daksh Academy. He holds eighteen years of experience in the education sector.
Majid explains that in his role as an administrative head, his responsibilities include student admissions, providing counseling, and assisting students with various administrative issues they may encounter.
He mentions that the Vision Group of Colleges provides a variety of courses. The unique selling points (USPs) of the Vision Group of Colleges include a focus on quality academics with an emphasis on learning outcomes. They engage students with practical projects and assignments to apply their knowledge in real-life situations. Beyond academics, they offer comprehensive training to prepare students for the industry and have strong connections with various industrial houses and companies to ensure excellent placement opportunities for their students.
Reflecting on his childhood, Majid shares that he hails from Chittorgarh, and his father worked for Hindustan Zinc Ltd. in Dariba mines. He finished his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Dariba and pursued his graduation at Commerce College, Udaipur. His aspiration led him to pursue an MBA, which he successfully completed in 2007 from the Faculty of Management Studies, Udaipur.
Majid recalls his first day at the MBA college, mentioning that he felt nervous while introducing himself. This experience motivated him to set a goal to achieve something meaningful and boost his confidence. Another memory he shares is about his initial job at ICFAI University, where he had quite an embarrassing interview. This incident ignited his determination to continuously learn and progress in life.
He shares that earlier he had trouble with speaking English. To get better at that, he knew he had to talk with people in English, but there were not many people around to talk with. So, he would call the customer service executives and talk in English with them. He believes today's generation has many ways to learn. He also thinks that if you want to grow, you will discover opportunities for growth around you.
Talking about his role models, Majid mentions his father. He greatly respects his father for who he is in both his personal and professional life. He is inspired by the way his father has managed to balance work and life. His father provides him with guidance and encouragement, motivating him along his journey, and he aims to make his father proud.
His father teaches him to always remember to live life with your own essence, says Majid.
Majid finds inspiration in the lyrics of the song "Kisi ki muskurahaton pe ho nisar, Kisika dard mil sake to le udhaar, Kisi Ke waaste ho tere dil mein pyaar, Jeena isi ka naam hai.” These lyrics encourage him to live his life not just for himself, but also for others.
He recalls that when he started his career, his first job was at the Transport Corporation of India in Gurgaon which he got through a campus interview. His family was thrilled because he secured a job with a salary of four lakhs per annum. However, he only worked there for half a day before quitting the job. He felt homesick and doubted whether a person from Chittorgarh could thrive in Gurgaon. He then restarted his career from scratch at ICFAI University, earning a monthly salary of Rs. 6000 only. He worked diligently and in 2017, he established an English-medium primary school. From his experience, he believes that starting with dedication, even from zero, can lead to great success.
Majid shares that his wife was the inspiration behind his decision to open a school. Despite coming from a family with a service background, venturing into education was a new direction for him. His wife recognized his management skills and encouraged him to start his own school. Acting on her advice, he established Daksh Academy, his primary school. He began with 70 students, and now the school has 450 students, which makes him really proud.
Comparing the two, Majid says he believes that education and experience go hand in hand. When someone combines education with experience and careful observation, they can learn a lot.
His path to success lies in recognizing your own strengths and weaknesses. He believes that trying to compete with others is unproductive; rather, the focus should be on challenging oneself.
Majid conveys a message to the young people of our country that if they fulfill their responsibilities in their chosen fields with complete dedication, our nation can progress.
