Manta Sidhu was born and raised in Delhi. But currently, she resides in Gurgaon. She is a musician, music teacher, and animal rescuer. She is the founder of the music band named - The Manta Sidhu Ensemble. Besides, along with her friends, she co-founded the NGO, Angel Eyes which primarily works to rescue diseased and injured animals and birds.
Talking about her childhood, Manta says that her childhood was ordinary. Unlike other musicians who claim to start singing at a young age, she, until the age of fifteen, was still exploring what she wanted to do growing up. She shares that in high school, she decided to pursue journalism realizing her interest in writing. After completing high school, she attended Hindu College, in New Delhi to pursue a BA in Sociology. After her bachelors, she pursued her Masters in Journalism from Jamia Millia University in Delhi itself.
Manta says that she really cherishes her school days. She deeply acknowledges that the value systems, and ethos of her school, really helped her shape her personality.
When asked about what made her switch to music from journalism, Manta says that sometimes it happens that you want to pursue a career so desperately but when you get into it you realize that you’re made for something else. The same happened with her when she worked with a startup as an editor and writer for one of their magazines. She realized that rescuing animals and music had always been part of her life, but it had been a long since she pursued either of them. She quit journalism and started working as a music teacher and vocal coach.
Manta thinks that every person ought to work for a cause be it poverty eradication, animal rescue, or anything that relates to social service as it will help them understand the meaning of life better and make them better human beings.
Manta considers her parents, who were always there in all ebbs and flows in her life, her biggest inspiration and role models.
Talking about COVID, Manta says that initially, it was quite uncertain during the pandemic, and owing to that she had to cancel many of her plans. However, she says that the pandemic rendered her an opportunity to sit back and contemplate the way she was living her life. Besides, she says that after the second wave of the pandemic things started to normalize and she started getting shows to perform for. Further, she says that the pandemic gave us a reality check and taught us what’s really important to us in life.
According to Manta, a leader is someone who people trust and choose to be their leader. She says that there are many ways to acquire leadership but to be a leader in a true sense one has to be motivating and inspiring to those they lead.
To the youth, Manta advises them to follow their passion. Besides, she says that they must work really hard and be open to feedback to pursue their passion.
Her Success Mantra is to just do it without worrying about the results.
Manta thinks that education and experience both have their importance in life. She thinks that education equips you with the theoretical aspects of things but experience acquaints you with the practicality of things and how the real-world functions. She says theory without practice is useless and practice without theory won’t take you too far.
To people, her message is to be conscious of what really matters to you and use your time accordingly.
