If you’re happy then you make others around you happy too.
Mansi Poddar is a psychotherapist and the founder of Mansi Therapy, a counseling center based in Kolkata. She has been in this field for twelve years now.
Mansi hails from Kolkata. She attended a convent school in Kolkata itself. She did her masters from New York University.
Recalling her childhood, Mansi says that she had a difficult childhood when she was in the US. Her parents sought the help of a psychotherapist to heal her and she says the therapist’s counseling sessions worked to her benefit. And it made her believe in the process of healing through psychotherapy and counseling sessions. Later, she decided to become a psychotherapist herself. Besides, she says that she would love to read literature as a kid and it had a great influence on shaping her into what she is today.
To aspiring psychotherapists, Mansi advises them to get a proper educational degree in the discipline, and should also try to do a masters in it, she says. Besides, she advises them to work on their inner self right after finishing their education, and then they can help others by counseling them. Furthermore, she advises them to always have a beginner’s mindset when it comes to learning new things.
Talking about her mistakes, Mansi says that initially, she would be empathetic toward her clients and wouldn’t charge them enough even to meet her own expenses which was a mistake she committed. Besides, not hiring the right set of people to work with her was a mistake she made.
Mansi is optimistic about the future of psychotherapy as a practice. However, she says that there are some quacks operating in this field and governments must intervene to control them.
