Manoj Jangir has been a Senior Research Fellow (SRF) in the Department of Geography at Mohanlal Sukhadia University since 2017.
Manoj hails from Banswara, near Chittorgarh. He is engaged in geographical research on the landforms present in Chittorgarh and surrounding areas. He completed his postgraduate degree in geography at MLSU itself.
Recalling his childhood memories, Manoj says that he had to travel long distances just to go to school since his village was far away from his primary school. Being from a family of farmers, his parents had to struggle to provide their son with a complete education. The hardships he faced in his school days made him a determined person. He has appeared in the UGC NET examination seven times and cleared it through sheer will and dedication. He now takes classes at his college as well.
Sharing his COVID experience, Manoj says that lockdown created problems for research data availability, and after the pandemic was over, he suddenly received some of the pending site work as well as research data to be procured. So it had led to some delays in his study as a research fellow. From a personal standpoint too, he had some family problems to sort out during the pandemic.
According to Manoj, time management is the key to this profession, and having the required qualifications is a must. Research experience is required, and he advises one to start involving themselves in research in the undergraduate program itself. Furthermore, one should always stay dedicated and be punctual regarding work and deadlines.
Manoj shares that his main inspiration to take up geography as a major was because of some of his family members in the geography department. This developed his interest in the subject. His professor in college also inspired him to take geography. Moreover, he takes pride in being the only student from his village to qualify for JRF and NET.
If given a chance to go back in time, Manoj would like to complete a B.Ed. because he feels it is necessary for a student pursuing research and aspiring to be an educator.
Manoj feels discipline is very necessary in life. He does not tolerate indiscipline by students whenever he takes classes. He advises everyone to take discipline in work and life seriously.
In his free time, Manoj likes playing cricket and listening to music.
