With a wealth of knowledge and expertise in his field, Manish plays a vital role in shaping the academic landscape within his institution. Through his leadership, he continues to inspire and make a significant impact on the field of civil engineering education.

Dr. Manish Verma is the Dean of Academics and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at Geetanjali Institute of Technical Studies, Udaipur. He has been teaching at the institute since 2015.

Talking about his educational qualifications, Manish says that he specializes in Structural Engineering and did his BTech from NIT- Raipur. Thereafter, he worked on some real-time projects and had an urge to combine education with field work. Manish primarily decided to join academia, inspired by his father, who was a professor. He has also done his MTech, followed by a PhD.

Recalling his childhood, Manish says that he was always fascinated by the construction of buildings and had an analytical mindset. He was born in Chhindwara, a city in Madhya Pradesh, where he studied till the 2nd grade. Owing to his father’s transferable job, Manish completed the rest of his schooling in Khandwa. He had a strong command over mathematics.  He also reminisces about flying kites as a kid.

Discussing his challenges, Manish says that deciding his career path after finishing 10th grade, moving on to higher secondary school, and coping with specialized subjects was difficult for him. Around 2009, Manish faced a difficulty in his vision owing to which he couldn’t study, and it made him anxious. However, with time, his willpower helped him sail through, and he completed all his degrees successfully.

When asked about his role models, Manish expresses that he derives inspiration from his father, who was renowned as one of the legendary professors of his era. Manish looked up to his father and, inspired by his achievements, made the decision to pursue a career in academics. Sachin Tendulkar is also one of his role models.

Drawing a comparison between education and experience, Manish says that education is not limited to degrees, but also caters to practical and theoretical knowledge of the subject. He adds that your hands-on training and practical implementation count as experience.

In his message to the youth, Manish says that the youngsters need to understand the difference between information and knowledge. He advises them to identify their desires first and then match them with their capacity. Manish suggests they not overestimate or underestimate themselves.

For aspiring civil engineers, Manish says that the scope of civil engineering is both in the government sector as well as in entrepreneurship. He suggests everyone stay optimistic and believe in themselves.

When free, Manish likes to listen to light music and read books on spirituality. He also makes an attempt to read and understand the Bhagavad Gita and Ramcharitmanas.
