Always understand the market before doing any business.
Manish Kalra is the owner of Shri Vishnu Plaza - a retail garments showroom in the Bapu Bazar market in Udaipur, Rajasthan. His shop specialises in readymade garments for girls ranging from western to ethnic wear.
Manish completed his schooling, college, and M.Com and then ventured into business with the complete trust and support of his entire family. He even went to Bikaner to get training and learn the work from one of his brothers. Thereafter, Manish started his business in 2000 and has been working hard to date. He credits his local customers as the reason for his consistent growth and success throughout the years.
Manish says that during the COVID pandemic, many local businesses suffered heavily. However, these testing times taught us the value of life and living with the bare minimum. It also evoked feelings of compassion and helping others in people.
Manish believes that both education and experience play a vital role in becoming an established businessperson. Education grooms the personality and behaviour whereas, the experience of market, target audience, market survey, setbacks and failures, etc., help in the organic growth of any business. Moreover, experience with customers teaches a lot such as fair dealing, a soft and polite nature, transparency, etc.
Manish feels that the youth of today is passionate but may lack the patience to start any business. Therefore, he advises aspiring businesspersons to understand their product, its market, suitable customers, and target audience, do market research and surveys, have some funds beforehand, never take loans for starting a business, etc. He advises the youngsters to invest in any business sensibly.
If Manish gets a Time Machine, he would like to relive his school days and enjoy them more.
During his free time, Manish spends time with his family, goes on outings, or listens to music.
Manish’s role models are his parents and school teachers who have supported, blessed, and given him the confidence to stand on his feet.
Manish advises business owners in Udaipur to be fair and transparent with the customers, give them a good ambience, and support their city, and its natural beauty.
