Consistency and passion toward work are the keys to success!
Mamta Singh was born and brought up in the Udaipur district of Rajasthan. She completed her schooling in Udaipur. After completing her schooling she chose to pursue CA and CS. For her CA preparation, she wanted to go to Jaipur. But her father was concerned about her safety and skeptical of sending her to Jaipur. However, as her brother was also in Jaipur at that time, he agreed and allowed her to go to Jaipur.
Mamta says that she belongs to a family where women are protected too much. As a kid, her routine would be to go to school and come back home. She never really ventured out of her home to explore other things. But when she came to Jaipur, it was a whole new world. She was free for the first time. She started exploring Jaipur. She realized that there are a lot of career options besides just CA and CS. Without her parents’ notice, she started trying her hand at different things. She got into the arts although she was also completing her graduation and earned an LLB. She started doing part-time jobs related to fine-arts. She fell in love with the arts. Finally, in 2016, she took to it full-time. Gradually, she started getting projects. She started with very small projects and later got many big projects as the word of mouth spread about her.
Mamta says that she hasn’t had any formal education in fine arts. She has learned it by watching videos on YouTube and working with other artists.
Sharing about struggles in her life Mamta says that when she first found her passion in fine arts, she was sailing in many boats simultaneously. She was doing her CA and CS. She was also teaching at an MBA college. And she was also doing fine-arts part-time. It was very hard for her to strike a balance between them all. All this while her parents were oblivious of her new-found passion. When her parents found out about it they stopped talking to her. Initially, she was not making any money from it. She approached around 52 cafes. Only two of them responded and she got her first assignment. Later she created a page on Facebook where she would upload pictures of her work. She says that she was consistent in her work and would do it passionately. Slowly people started noticing her work and she kept progressing.
Mamta’s success mantra is, be happy always in all ways.
To youngsters who want to do fine arts, Mamta suggests that they should do internships with other artists. They can enroll themselves in some fine arts colleges. They can leverage social media and showcase their talent to the people. Besides this, one ought to be very consistent with one’s work to experience a tangible gain.
Mamta is of the opinion that education and experience are equally important. She applies the knowledge of marketing, finance, etc. that she gained through her education, in her business as well.
Reflecting on her childhood, Mamta says that she was raised in an orthodox family. She had very limited career choices while growing up. She was the favorite of her parents.
If she could go back in time and undo something, Mamta would want to do her research properly as to which career would suit her personality the best. She would also want to enroll herself in a fine arts college.
Mamta is of the opinion that men should encourage women in their families and not suppress them. She also acknowledges that her brother always supported her in her endeavor of becoming an artist.
Besides her work, she likes to pursue other hobbies too. She is learning pottery and playing the drum.
